Key Terms

smart water meters, meter data management (MDM), software-as-a-service (SaaS), non-revenue water loss
4 terms
smart water meters technical
"which includes Itron Intelis® wSource smart water meters, Itron’s Smart Water head-end"
Smart water meters are electronic devices that track and transmit detailed water usage in real time, like a fitness tracker for a building’s water flow. They matter to investors because they enable utilities and property owners to detect leaks, reduce waste, improve billing accuracy, and plan infrastructure spending, which can lower costs, create new service revenues, and reduce regulatory or operational risks tied to aging water systems.
meter data management (MDM) technical
"head-end system and meter data management (MDM) platform. This enables efficient"
Meter data management (MDM) is the system and processes that collect, clean, store and organize electricity, gas or water meter readings so they can be used for billing, reporting and analysis. Think of it as a central filing and quality‑control system that turns raw meter readings into accurate bills and reliable usage data. Investors care because MDM affects a utility’s revenue accuracy, operating costs, demand forecasting and regulatory compliance, all of which influence cash flow, margins and risk.
software-as-a-service (SaaS) technical
"Itron’s MDM system, a fully hosted, software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution, will enable"
Software-as-a-service (SaaS) is a way of delivering software over the internet where customers pay a subscription to use applications hosted and maintained by a provider, like renting a tool or streaming a service rather than buying and installing it. For investors it matters because subscriptions create predictable, recurring revenue and can scale quickly with low distribution costs, while metrics like customer retention and churn directly affect future cash flow and valuation.
non-revenue water loss financial
"respond and resolve leaks more quickly, reducing non-revenue water loss. The utility will"
Non-revenue water loss is water that a utility produces or buys but never brings in as billed customer sales—lost through leaks, theft, faulty meters, or unbilled use. For investors, it matters because it shrinks a utility’s effective income and raises operating or capital costs: like buying groceries and having a quarter of them spill before you reach the kitchen, it reduces efficiency and can signal underinvestment, regulatory risk, or the need for higher rates.

Greek Utility Deploys Itron’s Smart Water Solutions as Part of Digital Water Transformation

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash., Jan. 06, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), which is innovating new ways for utilities and cities to manage energy and water, and its channel partner, IDATOR, are collaborating with Thessaloniki Water Supply & Sewerage SA (EYATH S.A.) to modernize water infrastructure in Greece. EYATH S.A., which serves over 1.2 million citizens in Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece, will deploy Itron’s Smart Water Solutions over the next five years as part of the utility’s digital water transformation.

EYATH S.A. has set a goal to reduce its water footprint by 20% by 2030, primarily by reducing water loss in treated water. To support this, the utility will deploy Itron’s Smart Water Solutions, which includes Itron Intelis® wSource smart water meters, Itron’s Smart Water head-end system and meter data management (MDM) platform. This enables efficient and comprehensive water loss management and turns water consumption data into actionable insights, providing both EYATH S.A. and its customers with increased accuracy and visibility into their water consumption.

Itron’s solution will enable EYATH to respond and resolve leaks more quickly, reducing non-revenue water loss.
