The certification of Keysight Technologies' RFPro software by Samsung Foundry for its 8nm LPP technology represents a significant advancement in the design and simulation of radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs). This collaboration addresses a critical need in the semiconductor industry for tools that can reduce time-to-market for RFICs, which are key components in a wide range of products, from smartphones to automotive electronics. As the demand for more powerful and energy-efficient devices grows, the ability to efficiently design and validate RFICs becomes increasingly important.

From a market perspective, this development has the potential to strengthen Keysight's position in the electronic design automation (EDA) market, as well as enhance Samsung Foundry's competitive edge as a leading semiconductor foundry. The integration of RFPro with Samsung's process design kits (PDKs) can lead to improved design accuracy and reduced development cycles, which is critical for companies looking to stay ahead in the fast-paced tech industry. This could result in a positive impact on Keysight's financial performance and market share, as well as potentially influence Samsung's foundry business by attracting more customers seeking advanced RF solutions.

Keysight's announcement of RFPro's certification for Samsung's 8nm LPP technology is a strategic move that could influence the company's financials. By solidifying its role in the Samsung Advanced Foundry Ecosystem, Keysight is not only expanding its customer base but also reinforcing its product's value proposition. With RFICs being a cornerstone in numerous high-growth sectors such as 5G, IoT and automotive, the ability to streamline the design process and achieve first pass success is a significant value driver. This could lead to increased sales of Keysight's EDA solutions and consequently, a positive impact on its revenue and earnings.

Investors and stakeholders should monitor the adoption rate of RFPro within Samsung's foundry customers, as it is a key indicator of the software's performance and its financial implications for Keysight. Additionally, the success of this partnership could lead to similar collaborations with other foundries, potentially expanding Keysight's market reach further. However, investors should also consider the competitive landscape of the EDA market and the potential for other players to offer similar capabilities, which could affect Keysight's market position and pricing power.

The certification of RFPro for use with Samsung's 8nm LPP technology is a technical milestone that reflects the ongoing evolution of semiconductor design and manufacturing. The 8nm LPP process is a cutting-edge technology that offers a balance between performance, power consumption and area, making it suitable for high-performance RF applications. The integration of RFPro's EM simulation capabilities with Samsung's PDKs enables designers to accurately predict electromagnetic interactions within their circuits, which is crucial for optimizing performance and avoiding costly design iterations.

Electromagnetic simulation is a complex field and RFPro's ability to provide accurate modeling that correlates closely with silicon measurements is a testament to the sophistication of Keysight's software. This level of precision is essential for designing the compact and highly integrated circuits required for modern RF applications. As RF technologies continue to advance, the importance of such simulation tools will only increase, positioning Keysight as a key player in the EDA space for RFIC design. Stakeholders in the semiconductor industry should recognize the importance of such tools in enabling the next generation of RF technologies and the potential influence on the industry's direction.

  • Design engineers can now use RFPro to perform electromagnetic simulation for circuits in Samsung’s most advanced 8nm Low Power Plus radio frequency semiconductor process technology
  • RFPro provides electromagnetic analysis of passive devices and their effects in a circuit, which is essential to first pass success with radio frequency integrated circuit design flows

SANTA ROSA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS) announces that the RFPro electromagnetic (EM) simulation software, part of the Keysight EDA Advanced Design System (ADS) integrated tool suite, is now certified by Samsung Foundry for design engineers targeting its 8-nanometer (nm) LPP (Low Power Plus) process. The new EM simulation capability, together with process design kits (PDKs) for Samsung’s radio frequency (RF) technologies for circuit and physical designs, supports the achievement of first pass success by radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) design teams.

Keysight ADS, RFPro, and GoldenGate are industry leading platforms for RF and microwave circuit design that help designers address their most difficult challenges with advanced solutions for RFIC and EM simulation. RFPro is a 3D EM simulation interface integrated into ADS, Cadence Virtuoso, and Synopsys Custom Compiler environments. RF and microwave circuit designers using these environments can easily run interactive EM-circuit co-simulation for tuning and optimization during layout rather than as a separate, standalone analysis step. RFPro includes Momentum 3D Planar and FEM full 3D EM simulators with automatic expert setup to accelerate interactive simulation and shorten the design cycle.

Samsung Foundry is the leading semiconductor foundry offering optimized foundry solutions, including state-of-the-art process technology, validated IP, and design service solutions. The 8LPP PDK from Samsung now includes technology files for use in Keysight EDA’s RFPro.

Sangyun Kim, Vice President and Head of Foundry Design Technology Team at Samsung Electronics said: “Samsung has been successfully collaborating with Keysight EDA to solve the most complex RF problems for our customers. The certification of 8LPP technology with Keysight’s RFPro means that simulation of different inductors attained highly precise correlation with silicon measurements per Samsung’s certification standards. This is the first of many and we will continue to partner with Keysight to ensure such certifications for our various RF technology offerings.”

Nilesh Kamdar, Senior Director and RF and Microwave Portfolio Manager at Keysight, said: “Foundry customers need design tool solutions that deliver faster time-to-market for RFICs and workflows. Keysight EDA is a long-time partner in the Samsung Advanced Foundry Ecosystem (SAFE) program, and we have been collaborating to ensure our mutual customer success with Samsung’s advanced semiconductor technologies. Our partnership reached another milestone this year in certifying RFPro for the Samsung 8LPP process technology, which enables designers to perform fast and accurate EM simulation, facilitating interactive analysis of EM effects in their complex designs.”
