MDA SPACE REPORTS THIRD QUARTER 2026 RESULTS

Higher work volumes lifted earnings, but program mix and overhead investment reduced adjusted EBITDA margins.

Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

News Explained

MDA reports adjusted diluted EPS rose 0.7% year over year to C$0.37; higher average shares following its March IPO and July bought deal partly offset adjusted net income growth. The release says proceeds from common-share issuances had increased net cash; issuing additional shares reduces existing holders’ percentage ownership absent offsetting changes.

"Adjusted EBITDA of $96.0 million in Q3 2026 increased 15.9%"
EBITDA stands for earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization. It measures a company's profitability by focusing on the money it makes from its core operations, ignoring expenses like taxes and accounting adjustments. Investors use EBITDA to compare how well different companies are performing financially, as it provides a clearer picture of operational success without the influence of financial structure or accounting choices.

non-ifrs measures financial
"This press release refers to certain non-IFRS measures."
Non-IFRS measures are financial figures that companies create on their own to show aspects of their performance, beyond what standard accounting rules require. They can help investors better understand how a company is really doing by highlighting information that might be more relevant or easier to interpret, much like a sports coach emphasizes certain stats to showcase team strengths not captured by official scores.
working capital financial
"positive working capital contribution in the quarter"
Working capital is the money a business has available to cover its daily expenses, like paying bills and buying supplies. It’s like the cash in your wallet that helps you handle everyday costs; having enough ensures the business can operate smoothly without running into money shortages.
View in glossary
senior unsecured notes financial
"a senior unsecured notes offering, which was completed in August 2026"
Senior unsecured notes are a type of loan a company borrows from investors, promising to pay back with interest. They are called "unsecured" because they aren’t backed by specific assets like buildings or equipment, but "senior" because they are paid back before other debts if the company gets into trouble. Investors see them as a relatively safer way for companies to raise money.

TORONTO, Nov. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- MDA Space Ltd. (TSX: MDA) (NYSE: MDA), a trusted mission partner to the rapidly expanding global space industry, today announced its financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2026.

MDA Space logo

"The MDA Space team delivered another quarter of strong revenue and profitability growth. Quarter after quarter, we consistently demonstrate a track record of execution, converting opportunities into contracted backlog, delivering revenue growth, operational excellence and solid financial performance.

In the first three quarters of the year, our team's ability to convert opportunity to successful execution was visibly demonstrated with the successful deployment of our inaugural satellites for Globalstar's existing low Earth orbit constellation and the start of operations at our new high-volume satellite manufacturing facility. Our commitment to investing in next generation space technologies was further demonstrated with two new product introductions, MDA MIDNIGHT™ and MDA AURORA™ BLACK, addressing the complex, contested environments faced by defence customers worldwide. We are also on schedule to round out 2026 with the launch of MDA CHORUS™, our next generation Earth observation constellation delivering best-in-class data, analytics and intelligence to customers worldwide.

We are building momentum through strong order activity, demonstrating our ability to convert opportunities within our $40B opportunity pipeline, as further evidenced by our recent selection to participate in Europe's IRIS2 satellites, confirming our ability to win contracts on constellations globally. In addition, the pending acquisitions of Blue Canyon Technologies and CLS will significantly expand our market reach and reinforce our position as a global space leader."

Q3 2026 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Backlog of $3.9 billion at quarter-end provides revenue visibility for 2027 and beyond. This compares to $4.4 billion as of Q3 2025 and in line with Q2 2026.
  • Revenues of $498.1 million in Q3 2026 were up 21.5% year-over-year driven by higher volumes within Satellite Systems and Geointelligence.
  • Adjusted EBITDA of $96.0 million in Q3 2026 increased 15.9% year-over-year driven by higher volumes of work. Adjusted EBITDA margin of 19.3% in Q3 2026 is consistent with the Company's full year margin guidance of 18%-20%.
  • Adjusted net income in Q3 2026 was $60.4 million increasing 26.1% year-over-year driven by the higher gross profit, partially offset by investments in SG&A. Adjusted diluted earnings per share of $0.37 in Q3 2026 increased 0.7% year-over-year driven by higher adjusted net income partially offset by higher average shares outstanding following the Company's initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange in March 2026 and subsequent bought deal public offering in July 2026.
  • Operating cash flow was $106.2 million in Q3 2026 compared with $32.8 million in Q3 2025. The year-over-year increase in operating cash flow was primarily due to positive working capital contribution in the quarter.
  • Free cash flow was $61.6 million in Q3 2026 compared to $(36.7) million in Q3 2025. The year-over- year increase was driven by higher operating cash flow as a result of the aforementioned working capital contribution in addition to lower capital expenditures.
  • Net cash position was $1,328.0 million at the end of Q3 2026 compared to a net debt position of $120.0 million as of December 31, 2025. The improved net cash position was largely driven by net proceeds received through the aforementioned common share issuances and a senior unsecured notes offering, which was completed in August 2026. The Company intends to draw on this cash position to fund its acquisitions of Collecte Localisation Satellites (CLS) and Blue Canyon Technologies LLC (BCT).

We define EBITDA as net income (loss) before: i) depreciation and amortization expenses, ii) provision for (recovery of) income taxes, and iii) finance costs (income). Adjusted EBITDA is calculated by adding to and deducting from EBITDA, as applicable, certain expenses, costs, charges or benefits incurred which in management's view are either not indicative of underlying business performance or impact the ability to assess the operating performance of our business, including i) unrealized foreign exchange gain or loss, ii) gain or loss on financial instruments, iii) share-based compensation expenses, iv) share of profit or loss of equity-accounted investees, v) acquisition, integration and reorganization costs, and vi) other items that may arise from time to time. Adjusted EBITDA margin represents Adjusted EBITDA divided by revenue. Adjusted Net Income is calculated by adding to and deducting from net income, as applicable, certain expenses, costs, charges or benefits incurred which in management's view are either not indicative of underlying business performance or impact the ability to assess the operating performance of our business, including i) amortization of intangible assets related to business combinations, ii) unrealized foreign exchange gain or loss, iii) gain or loss on financial instruments, iv) share-based compensation expenses, v) share of profit or loss of equity-accounted investees, vi) acquisition, integration and reorganization costs, and vii) other items that may arise from time to time. Adjusted Earnings per Share represents Adjusted Net Income divided by the weighted average number of shares outstanding. Order Bookings is the dollar sum of contract values of firm customer contracts. Order Bookings is indicative of firm future revenues; however, it does not provide a guarantee of future net income and provides no information about the timing of future revenue. Net Debt (Cash) is the total carrying amount of long-term debt including current portions, as presented in the Q3 2026 Financial Statements, less cash and excluding any lease liabilities. Net Debt (Cash) is a liquidity metric used to determine how well the Company can pay its debt obligations if they were due immediately. Free Cash Flow is a supplemental measure used by Management and other users of the financial statements to monitor the availability of discretionary cash generated, and available to the Company to repay debt, make strategic investments, and meet other payment obligations. We define Free Cash Flow as operating cash flows less net capital expenditures.

FAQ

AI-generated questions and answers. How Rhea-AI works. Not financial advice.

What were MDA Space's third-quarter 2026 revenue and adjusted earnings?

MDA Space reported revenue of C$498.1 million and adjusted net income of C$60.4 million, up 21.5% and 26.1% year over year, respectively. Adjusted diluted earnings per share were C$0.37 on the rounded figures presented. Adjusted earnings measures are non-IFRS measures.

What is MDA Space's updated 2026 financial guidance?

MDA Space expects revenue of C$1.90–C$1.95 billion and adjusted EBITDA of C$355–C$375 million. Its adjusted EBITDA margin outlook remains 18%–20%, capital expenditures remain C$225–C$275 million, and free cash flow is expected to be neutral to negative.

What does MDA Space include in its backlog?

MDA Space's backlog represents remaining performance obligations: the transaction price of firm orders less revenue already recognized. It excludes unexercised contract options and indefinite delivery or indefinite quantity contracts.

Why did MDA Space's operating cash flow improve in the third quarter of 2026?

The increase in operating cash flow was primarily driven by a positive working capital contribution. Lower capital expenditures also contributed to the year-over-year improvement in free cash flow.
