Key Terms

national instrument 81-102 investment funds regulatory
A Canadian securities rule that sets the operating rules and limits for publicly offered mutual funds and exchange-traded funds, spelling out what assets they can buy, how much concentration or leverage they may use, how holdings are valued and held in custody, and what information must be reported to investors. It matters to investors because it provides basic protections—like enforced diversification, liquidity and fair pricing—so savers can trust fund behavior and compare products more easily.
prospectus regulatory
A prospectus is a detailed document that explains a company's plans for offering new shares or investments to the public. It’s important because it provides potential investors with key information about the company’s business, risks, and how they might make money, helping them decide whether to invest. Think of it as a guidebook for understanding what you're buying into.
fund facts regulatory
Fund facts are concise summary documents that present a fund’s key features—investment objective, main risks, fees, historical performance, and manager information—in plain language so investors can quickly compare options. Think of it as a nutrition label for an investment: it highlights what you’re buying, how much it will cost, and the level of risk you’re taking. Investors use it to decide whether a fund fits their goals and to compare similar funds side by side.
