RTX's impressive GTF engine order momentum signals strong market position and future revenue stability in commercial aviation.
RTX's Pratt & Whitney division has demonstrated exceptional commercial momentum, securing nearly 1,100 GTF engine orders and commitments in just the first half of 2025. This rapid pace puts them on track for potentially their strongest order year ever, bringing their cumulative GTF program total to an impressive 12,000+ engines from over 90 global customers.
The diverse customer base—including Aegean Airlines, Air Niugini, ANA, Frontier, LOT Polish, and Wizz Air—indicates broad market acceptance across different aviation business models and regions. This global diversification provides RTX with revenue stability and reduced exposure to regional market fluctuations.
The upcoming GTF Advantage engine, which recently achieved FAA type certification, represents RTX's continued investment in the platform. This upgraded variant promises operational improvements in three critical areas: extended range capability, enhanced fuel efficiency beyond the current 20% advantage over previous generation engines, and improved durability—all factors that directly impact airline operating economics.
Most significantly, the new GTF Hot Section Plus option will nearly double time-on-wing, addressing a critical maintenance concern while substantially reducing operators' overall cost of ownership. This improvement should strengthen RTX's competitive position against CFM International's LEAP engines in the fiercely contested single-aisle aircraft market.
With the GTF program projected to accumulate 250 million flight hours by mid-2030s, RTX is building a substantial aftermarket revenue stream that will complement new engine sales for decades, providing long-term recurring revenue visibility for investors.
Brings total number of GTF engine orders and commitments to more than 12,000
"We continue to see strong demand for the GTF engine, as evidenced by the large number of orders we've received only halfway into the year," said Rick Deurloo, president of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney. "These orders demonstrate confidence in Pratt & Whitney and the value the GTF delivers to customers with its industry-leading fuel efficiency. We will continue to build on this with the entry into service next year of the GTF Advantage, which received FAA type certification earlier this year and will provide even more range capability, better fuel efficiency and enhanced durability."
The GTF is the most fuel-efficient engine for the single aisle market, delivering up to
The engine's revolutionary geared architecture is the right foundation for next generation technologies and will have accumulated more than 250 million hours of flying time by the mid-2030s.
