Key Terms

agentic ai technical
Agentic AI refers to computer systems that can make their own decisions and take actions without needing someone to tell them what to do each time. It's like giving a robot a degree of independence to solve problems or achieve goals on its own, which matters because it could change how we work and interact with technology in everyday life.
ai agents technical
AI agents are computer programs designed to perform tasks or make decisions automatically, often by learning from data and adapting to new information. They act like virtual assistants or robots that can handle complex activities without human intervention, which can help businesses and individuals save time and improve efficiency. For investors, AI agents matter because they can enhance decision-making and automate processes that influence markets and financial outcomes.
nist regulatory
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is a U.S. government agency that creates technical standards, testing methods and best-practice guidance for measurements, technology and cybersecurity. For investors, NIST guidance matters because companies that comply can lower operational and regulatory risk, speed product validation, and build customer and partner trust—similar to using a trusted blueprint that makes a product safer and easier to sell.
data sovereignty regulatory
Data sovereignty is the principle that digital information is subject to the laws and control of the country or entity where it is stored or processed. For investors, it matters because where data lives affects a company's legal obligations, costs, ability to sell services across borders, and exposure to government access or restrictions — like owning a house that must follow the rules of the town it sits in.
runtime observability technical
Runtime observability is the practice of continuously watching and measuring a software system while it is running to understand its behavior, health, and performance. Like a car dashboard that shows speed, fuel and engine warning lights, it gives engineers real-time signals about slowdowns, failures or unusual activity so problems can be fixed faster. Investors care because better observability reduces downtime, operational risk and support costs, and helps preserve customer trust and revenue.
operational resilience technical
Operational resilience is a company’s ability to keep its essential functions running when faced with disruptions like cyberattacks, supply chain failures, or natural disasters. Think of it as a shock absorber and backup generator for the business: stronger resilience limits lost revenue, safeguards reputation, and reduces the chance of regulatory penalties, all of which matter to investors assessing a company’s steady cash flow and long-term risk.
build-time auditability technical
Build-time auditability is the ability to check and record what happens while software is being assembled, so anyone can verify that the final product was produced from the claimed source and procedures. For investors this matters because it reduces the risk of hidden defects or tampering in code—similar to tracing ingredients and steps in a factory—lowering the chance of costly security incidents, recalls, or regulatory problems.

Publishes framework for vendor-neutral standards for agentic AI deployment in regulated industries

WINDSOR, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- SS&C Technologies Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: SSNC) today announced the publication of its Enterprise AI Governance Framework, calling on the industry to adopt open standards for the deployment of agentic AI in regulated environments. The framework reflects growing demand for open, portable AI deployment standards across enterprises as use of AI agents grows.

“SS&C specializes in helping complex regulated organizations automate their operations. As enterprises deploy AI at scale, they need to be able to freely build, adapt, change and reconstruct AI workflows in accordance with their governance policies,” said Rob Stone, Head of Intelligent Automation and Analytics. “What's missing is a shared framework for how enterprises manage and evolve AI workflows at scale — one that works across models, platforms, and vendor relationships. We look forward to developing these standards alongside industry participants.”

While existing standards such as NIST and ISO 42001 provide important guidance on AI risk management and data governance, they do not directly address the operational complexity of deploying AI agents at enterprise scale. As enterprises move toward autonomous, multi-step AI workflows, there is a growing gap in how these systems are operationalized, managed, and governed in production.

SS&C’s framework is intended to address that gap directly, with principles covering:

Portability: the ability to replace any model, tool, or workflow component without rebuilding the systems around it

Build-time auditability: a permanent record at every workflow node’s design, including decisions, alternatives, and approvals

Runtime observability: continuous monitoring of what the system does in production, compared against intended design

Data sovereignty: geographic and regulatory constraints on data processing from design through execution

Operational resilience: pre-validated alternatives at every node to ensure model deprecations, provider changes, or contract restrictions do not cascade into system-wide failures

SS&C is establishing a working group to develop these standards further. Enterprises, regulators, and industry participants interested in joining are invited to contact us at ai.framework@sscinc.com A formal working group structure will be announced in Q2.
