WASHINGTON, March 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Alliance for Women in Media is honoring Scripps News with a prestigious Gracie Award for its 2024 investigation, "Fentanyl: The Silent Toll."

The Gracie Awards winners were announced today. Scripps News, the national streaming channel owned by The E.W. Scripps Company (NASDAQ: SSP), also received an honorable mention in two other categories.

"Fentanyl: The Silent Toll"
Scripps News Investigates correspondent Lori Jane Gliha and producer Brittany Freeman won the Gracie Award in the "national news: hard news feature" category for their original reporting, "Fentanyl: The Silent Toll". The team traveled from coast to coast, interviewing families, medical experts and social workers about the deaths and near-fatalities of babies, toddlers and young children across the country.

Scripps News received an honorable mention in the "national news: soft news feature" category for its special report, "Ukraine's Women Warriors". Scripps News international correspondent Jason Bellini traveled to the frontlines of the war in Ukraine where the call to fight for freedom is being answered by Ukrainian women finding their own strength and bravery. Bellini's reports provide insight into the experience of more than 5,000 female Ukrainian volunteers in combat positions.

Bellini has been reporting in Ukraine since the start of the war.

His investigation into Ukraine's orphans received several national journalism awards including: a Deadline Club Award; a New York Press Club Award; the Radio Television Correspondents' Association's David Bloom Award; and a third place National Headliner Award. Scripps News received an honorable mention in the "national news investigative" category for its investigation into the 2023 Maine mass shooting. The reporting revealed how more than two dozen law enforcement officials had information about the shooter's threats and access to firearms, but no one triggered state red or yellow flag laws that are intended to prevent mass shootings.

Gliha and Freeman spent months uncovering information about the shooter, a member of the Army Reserves. Their investigation was also honored with a 2025 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award.
