5 terms
biosimilar medical
"Teva secures exclusive global rights to commercialize Polpharma Biologics’ biosimilar candidate"
A biosimilar is a medicine created to be highly similar to an existing complex drug made from living cells, matching its safety and effectiveness while allowing for small, natural variations. For investors, biosimilars matter because they introduce lower-cost competition when patents end, which can cut prices, shift market share, and change revenue forecasts for companies selling the original drugs, much like a generic version does for simpler chemical medicines.
ocrelizumab medical
"biosimilar candidate to Ocrevus® (ocrelizumab), including both intravenous and subcutaneous"
A prescription monoclonal antibody drug that treats multiple sclerosis by targeting and reducing a specific type of immune cell (B cells) that can mistakenly attack the nervous system; think of it as removing a faulty part from a machine to stop harmful sparks. Investors watch it because approvals, safety data, patent protection, and competing therapies directly affect sales forecasts, regulatory risk, and the financial value of companies that develop or market the medicine.
intravenous medical
"biosimilar candidate to Ocrevus® (ocrelizumab), including both intravenous and subcutaneous"
Intravenous means delivering a drug, fluid or substance directly into a vein so it goes straight into the bloodstream. For investors, that matters because intravenous products often act faster, require different manufacturing, regulatory steps and healthcare settings (like hospitals or clinics), and can affect pricing, adoption and revenue profiles in ways that differ from pills or topical treatments — like turning a slow-release delivery into a direct tap to the system.
subcutaneous medical
"biosimilar candidate to Ocrevus® (ocrelizumab), including both intravenous and subcutaneous"
Subcutaneous means situated or applied just beneath the skin. In finance, the term can describe processes or investments that are hidden or not immediately visible, much like something placed under the skin that isn't easily seen from the outside. Recognizing subcutaneous activities helps investors understand underlying factors that may influence markets or asset values over time.
regulatory approval regulatory
"proposed biosimilar to Ocrevus®1 (ocrelizumab), upon regulatory approval."
Regulatory approval is the official permission given by government agencies or authorities that allows a product, service, or business activity to be legally operated or sold. It is important to investors because receiving approval often indicates that a product has been reviewed for safety and compliance, which can influence its success and the company’s prospects in the market. Without this approval, launching or selling certain products may be restricted or prohibited.

About ocrelizumab
Ocrelizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody designed to target CD20-positive B cells, which are believed to play a role in the autoimmune activity associated with multiple sclerosis. Ocrevus® (ocrelizumab) is indicated for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis and primary progressive multiple sclerosis. About Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, unpredictable and progressive disease of the central nervous system, which includes the brain and spinal cord. In MS, the loss of myelin, the protective sheath surrounding nerve fibers, disrupts the transmission of electrical signals to and from the brain, leading to a wide range of symptoms.

MS affects people differently. Symptoms can fluctuate, with periods of worsening (relapses) followed by partial or full recovery (remission). Over time, some patients may also experience a gradual progression of disability.

Common symptoms include fatigue, weakness, numbness or tingling, walking difficulties, spasticity, dizziness, and vision problems, among others.
