Key Terms

retail media financial
Retail media is the practice of retailers selling advertising space and promotional placements on their websites, apps, in-store screens and checkout areas, using their customer shopping data to target ads. It matters to investors because it creates a high-margin, recurring revenue stream for retailers—like a grocery store renting its endcap for featured products—and can boost profit and valuation by turning customer traffic into advertising sales.
commerce marketing financial
Commerce marketing is the set of strategies and tools that link marketing activities directly to online and offline sales, focusing on getting customers to buy rather than just building awareness. It combines advertising, product placement, pricing, customer data, and the shopping experience—like a store window, sales pitch, and checkout all working together—to increase conversions and repeat purchases. Investors care because it affects how efficiently a business turns marketing spending into measurable revenue and customer value.
open internet technical
The open internet is the idea that all lawful online content, services and sites should be reachable without favoring, blocking or slowing particular sources — like a public highway where every car travels under the same rules. Investors care because rules or breakdowns that let some traffic be prioritized can reshape which companies win or lose, change costs for content delivery and advertising, and alter returns on networks and digital services.
data-driven advertising financial
The practice of using collected data—such as customer demographics, browsing history, purchase behavior, and campaign performance—to target, personalize, measure, and optimize advertising across channels. Think of it like using a map and past trip logs to choose the most efficient route for each traveler: it helps companies reach the right audiences more precisely and track which ads drive sales or leads. For investors, it affects marketing efficiency, revenue scalability, and exposure to privacy or regulatory risks tied to how data is gathered and used.

Industry veteran joins as a pioneer of retail and commerce data; Argyilan is third new C-level hire in recent months

VENTURA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Trade Desk, a leading global advertising technology company, today announced the appointment of Kristi Argyilan as Chief Commercial Officer and Executive Vice President. Argyilan will lead The Trade Desk’s data partnerships team, including identity, measurement, retail media, governance and more. She will report into founder and CEO, Jeff Green and be based in San Francisco.

Argyilan joins The Trade Desk as one of the advertising industry's most respected leaders in retail media and commerce. Most recently, she served as Global Head of Advertising at Uber, where she led the company's global advertising business. Prior to Uber, she held senior leadership roles at Albertsons Media Collective, Roundel and IPG Mediabrands, helping shape the evolution of retail media and commerce marketing. She also serves on the board of LiveRamp.

"Advertising is entering one of the most important periods of innovation in its history, as brands look for partners who can help them navigate rapid change while creating lasting competitive advantage," said Jeff Green, founder and CEO of The Trade Desk. "I've long admired Kristi's work through our partnership and know she's exactly that kind of leader. She has an exceptional ability to bring together customers, partners and teams around a shared vision - and then turn that vision into measurable business growth. I'm thrilled to welcome her to The Trade Desk, where she'll help our clients seize the opportunities created by AI, commerce, and the open internet while strengthening the ecosystem that makes that innovation possible."

Widely recognized as one of the pioneers of the retail media industry, Argyilan has spent more than a decade driving innovation at the intersection of commerce, retail data and advertising. Her appointment reflects The Trade Desk's continued investment in helping brands, retailers and media owners unlock the full value of data-driven advertising across the open internet.

"The advertising industry is at an inflection point, and The Trade Desk is uniquely positioned to help marketers navigate what's next," said Argyilan. "I've long admired Jeff and the company's commitment to innovation, transparency and the open internet, as well as its relentless focus on customer success. I'm excited to join this exceptional team and work alongside our clients and partners around the world as we help them unlock new opportunities for growth through data-driven advertising, measurement and decisioning.”

Argyilan will start on July 27th. Her appointment follows the recent additions of Nate Olmstead as Chief Financial Officer and Sarah Gavin as Chief Marketing Officer, Executive Vice President, further strengthening The Trade Desk's executive leadership team as the company enters its next phase of growth.

"We've always believed that great companies are built by exceptional people,” continued Green. “The leaders we've welcomed over the past month bring world-class experience, fresh perspectives and an unwavering commitment to our customers.
