Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX) has appointed Daniel Brennan, a former Boston Scientific chief financial officer, to its board as an independent director.
Sentiment and the balance of points
Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.
“Dan’s extensive financial leadership experience and deep understanding of global healthcare businesses will bring an important perspective to the Vertex Board,” said Jeffrey Leiden, M.D., Ph.D., Executive Chairman of Vertex. “His experience navigating periods of high growth and strategic expansion will be especially valuable as Vertex continues to expand, diversify and invest in innovation so we can make a meaningful impact for many more patients.”
“Vertex’s track record demonstrates what is possible when bold science is supported by a clear strategy and strong execution,” said Mr. Brennan. “I am honored to join the Board and look forward to helping the company extend its impact to more patients while sustaining the capabilities and investments needed for long-term success.”
Mr. Brennan serves on the Boards of Directors of Waters Corporation and Madrigal Pharmaceuticals, where he also serves as the Chair of the Audit Committee. He holds a B.S. in finance and investments and an M.B.A. from Babson College and is also a certified public accountant.
In connection with the appointment of Mr. Brennan, the size of the Vertex Board was increased from 10 to 11 members.
