MARKET LEADERS

How to read this ranking

52-Week Gain is the column the table is ordered by: the percentage change from the split-adjusted close one year ago to the latest close. Because the prices are split-adjusted, a split inside the window contributes nothing to the figure, and a company that split three-for-one shows the return its holders actually earned rather than a two-thirds fall.

Market Cap and Price describe the company today, not a year ago, so the two cannot be combined into a starting price. A row near the top of this board is usually small: a gain of several hundred percent takes far less buying on a company worth tens of millions than on one worth billions, which is why the largest gains and the largest companies rarely appear in the same rows.

The board admits companies above $100 million in market capitalization listed on NYSE, Nasdaq and NYSE American, and nothing else: no liquidity test, no price minimum. A company needs a close a full year back to be measured at all, which is why a recent listing is absent here while it appears on the year-to-date board. Country and Sector come from each company's own record and are what to check first when a symbol near the top is unfamiliar.

Gains are computed on split-adjusted closes, so a split inside the window does not read as a move. This ranking is informational and is not investment advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q What is the best performing stock over the past year?
A

Among the 3,908 NYSE, Nasdaq and NYSE American stocks currently eligible for this ranking, MGRT (Mega Fortune Company Limited) has the highest gain over the past 52 weeks with +2,545%. The top 3 performers are MGRT, SNDK, AXTI.

Q What stocks have gained the most in the past 52 weeks?
A

The top gaining stocks over 52 weeks include: MGRT (+2,545%), SNDK (+1,760%), AXTI (+1,498%), ANL (+791%), ERAS (+702%). These rankings cover US-listed stocks traded on NYSE, Nasdaq and NYSE American with a market capitalization above $100 million.

Q Which sectors do the top 52-week gainers belong to?
A

The five highest-gaining companies on this board sit in Technology, Healthcare, with the leader MGRT in Technology. That is what the top of this list happens to contain, not a ranking of sectors: this board orders individual companies by their own price change and computes nothing at sector level, so five rows say nothing about how a sector performed overall.

Q How is the 52-week gain calculated?
A

Each figure is the percentage change from the split-adjusted close 52 weeks ago to the latest close. Because both prices are split-adjusted, a split inside the window contributes nothing to the number. A company needs a close a full year back to be measured at all, which is why a recent listing appears on the year-to-date board but not on this one.

Q Which companies does this ranking include?
A

3,908 companies with a market capitalization above $100 million traded on NYSE, Nasdaq and NYSE American, each with a split-adjusted close both a year ago and today. There is no liquidity or price requirement beyond that, so the top of the board is populated by small companies whose percentage moved on very little volume.

What a large 52-week gain does and does not tell you

The figure is a measurement of what already happened over one fixed window, and the window is what makes it fragile. A stock that rose steeply eleven months ago and has drifted since carries the same 52-week gain as one that is rising now, and tomorrow the earliest day drops out of the window and the number changes without the price moving at all. The monthly and year-to-date boards linked above measure shorter windows over the same companies, and comparing a row's position across the three is the cheapest way to tell a finished move from a continuing one.

The board also cannot see why a price rose. A takeover offer, a reverse split that was not captured as a corporate action, a single approval or a financing round all appear here as the same kind of number. Before treating any row as a finding, open the company's news and filings from its symbol link and check the volume behind the move: on the thinly traded names that dominate the top of this list, a large percentage can rest on very few shares.
