How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

Adjusted EBITDAX $1.857 billion Non-GAAP; third quarter 2026, compared with $1.345 billion in third quarter 2025
Adjusted EBITDAX financial
"adjusted EBITDAX was $1.86 billion"
Adjusted EBITDAX is a measure of a company’s operating profit that adds back interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization and specific recurring costs (often exploration or similar project expenses), then removes one‑time or unusual items to show recurring cash profitability. Investors use it like a clean yardstick—ignoring financing choices, accounting rules and one‑off events—to compare core performance across periods or peers and assess a business’s ability to generate cash from operations.
Free cash flow financial
"Free cash flow totaled $699 million"
Free cash flow is the amount of money a company has left over after paying all its expenses and investing in its business, like buying equipment or updating facilities. It shows how much cash is available to reward shareholders, pay down debt, or save for future growth. This helps investors understand if a company is financially healthy and able to grow.
Net debt financial
"Net debt was $3.2 billion at the end of the third quarter"
Net debt is the total amount a company owes after subtracting the cash and assets it has that can be used to pay off that debt. It shows how much debt is truly a burden, helping investors understand if a company is financially healthy or heavily borrowed. Think of it like calculating how much money you owe after using your savings to pay part of it.
production sharing contract technical
"production sharing contract impacts associated with higher Brent prices"
A production sharing contract is an agreement where a government lets a company explore for and produce oil or gas on its territory, and the physical output is divided between the company and the government according to a preset formula. The company is typically allowed to take a portion of the production to recover its costs, with the remaining “profit” share split afterward—like one neighbor planting and tending a field and then dividing the harvest. Investors care because the split and cost-recovery rules determine how much cash and risk the company will actually keep from a project, directly affecting revenues, profitability and project valuation.
turn-in-lines technical
"timing of turn-in-lines during the year"
Total revenue $2.769 billion Compared with $2.115 billion in third quarter 2025
Net income attributable to common stock $698 million Compared with $205 million in third quarter 2025
Diluted earnings per share $2.00 per share Compared with $0.57 per share in third quarter 2025
Free cash flow $699 million Compared with $339 million in third quarter 2025

FINANCIAL AND OPERATIONAL RESULTS — PAGE 2 of 6
Third-quarter summary
Third-quarter reported production was 450,000 BOE per day, and adjusted production was 381,000 BOE per day, both exceeding guidance. U.S. oil production averaged 128,000 barrels per day, 4,000 barrels per day above guidance, reflecting high uptime, earlier turn-in-lines and robust new well performance in the Permian Basin.
In Egypt, gross production averaged 206,000 BOE per day, relatively flat with the second quarter. Gross gas production increased to 542 million cubic feet (MMCF) per day, exceeding guidance through strong well performance and more resilient base production. Average gas realizations increased to $4.34 per Mcf from $4.23 in the second quarter. Adjusted production averaged 64,000 BOE per day, slightly lower than guidance primarily due to production sharing contract impacts associated with higher Brent prices.
Net cash provided by operating activities was $1.38 billion, and adjusted EBITDAX was $1.86 billion. Upstream capital investment was $466 million, approximately $30 million below guidance, primarily reflecting timing impacts of GranMorgu capital spending that shifted into the fourth quarter; lease operating expense was $418 million. Free cash flow totaled $699 million, bringing year-to-date free cash flow to $1.91 billion.
Balance sheet and shareholder returns
APA has repaid $1.2 billion of debt maturities year-to-date, including $451 million in the third quarter. The company has reduced total debt by $2.8 billion since year-end 2024, lowering annualized interest expense by more than $180 million; these savings are incremental to the company’s controllable spend reduction program. Net debt was $3.2 billion at the end of the third quarter.
APA returned $537 million to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases during the third quarter. Through October, the company repurchased an additional 4.5 million shares at an average price of $47.32 per share, bringing total year-to-date repurchases to 17.8 million shares. Consistent with its established capital returns framework, APA expects to return at least 60% of 2026 free cash flow to shareholders while continuing to strengthen its balance sheet.
At current strip prices APA expects to reach its $3 billion net debt target by year-end. Building on this progress, the company has updated its net debt target to $2 billion. Continued debt reduction will lower financing costs and enhance financial flexibility.
CEO commentary
“We are delivering another strong year, with our third-quarter results reflecting the quality of our assets and consistent execution across the business,” said John J. Christmann IV, APA’s CEO. “Our teams are raising the standard for performance, operating more efficiently, and translating those gains into substantial cash flow. This quarter alone, we generated nearly $700 million in free cash flow, returned more than $500 million to shareholders and reduced total debt by more than $450 million.”

Fourth quarter and full-year outlook
Continued drilling and completion efficiency gains in the Permian are improving capital productivity and supporting an increase in full-year U.S. oil production to 124,000 barrels per day, above the company’s initial guidance of 120,000 to 122,000 barrels per day. Faster drilling cycle times are also enabling APA to accelerate completion activity into the fourth quarter, increasing 2026 Permian capital investment by $30 million and supporting a smoother production profile entering 2027. Fourth-quarter U.S. oil production is expected to moderate with the timing of turn-in-lines during the year and seasonal weather impacts.
In Egypt, gross BOE production is expected to increase slightly for the fourth quarter and full year.
Fourth-quarter upstream capital investment is expected to be approximately $525 million reflecting timing shifts in Suriname and increased Permian activity.
Full-year abandonment and decommissioning expenditures are now expected to total $285 million, a $15 million reduction from prior guidance. Lease operating expense guidance has been increased $25 million to $1,525 million to reflect higher stock-based compensation expense allocated to LOE.
At current strip prices, APA expects to generate approximately $2.9 billion of free cash flow in 2026, an increase of $600 million from its August update. The stronger free cash flow outlook supports substantial fourth-quarter share repurchases alongside continued debt reduction.
Preliminary 2027 outlook
APA’s preliminary budget for 2027 upstream capital investment is $2.5 billion. Exploration and GranMorgu development represent approximately 60% of the $400 million year-over-year increase, with the balance reflecting increased Permian activity and expected service cost inflation. This investment program is expected to result in similar U.S. and Egypt production year-over-year.
CEO closing commentary
“We will enter 2027 well positioned, with a strong core business and significant opportunities ahead. Our Permian and Egypt assets provide a reliable production and cash flow base, while GranMorgu continues to progress toward first oil in mid-2028. Our diversified portfolio, strengthened balance sheet, and the capital carry in Suriname provide APA with a distinct financial advantage. We have the capacity to advance high-impact exploration opportunities, further reduce debt, and deliver substantial shareholder returns,” Christmann concluded.

Reconciliation of Costs incurred to Upstream capital investment

Management believes the presentation of upstream capital investments is useful for investors to assess APA’s expenditures related to our upstream capital activity. We define capital investments as costs incurred for oil and gas activities, adjusted to exclude property and leasehold acquisitions, asset retirement additions and revisions, capitalized interest, and certain exploration expenses. Upstream capital expenditures attributable to a one-third noncontrolling interest in Egypt are also excluded. Management believes this provides a more accurate reflection of APA’s cash expenditures related to upstream capital activity and is consistent with how we plan our capital budget.

Reconciliation of Net cash provided by operating activities to Cash flows from operations before changes in operating assets and liabilities and Free cash flow

Cash flows from operations before changes in operating assets and liabilities and free cash flow are non-GAAP financial measures. APA uses these measures internally and provides this information because management believes it is useful in evaluating the company’s ability to generate cash to internally fund exploration and development activities, fund dividend programs, and service debt, as well as to compare our results from period to period. We believe these measures are also used by research analysts and investors to value and compare oil and gas exploration and production companies and are frequently included in published research reports when providing investment recommendations. Cash flows from operations before changes in operating assets and liabilities and free cash flow are additional measures of liquidity but are not measures of financial performance under GAAP and should not be considered as an alternative to cash flows from operating, investing, or financing activities. Additionally, this presentation of free cash flow may not be comparable to similar measures presented by other companies in our industry.

Reconciliation of Net cash provided by operating activities to Adjusted EBITDAX

Management believes EBITDAX, or earnings before income tax expense, interest expense, depreciation, amortization and exploration expense is a widely accepted financial indicator, and useful for investors, to assess a company’s ability to incur and service debt, fund capital expenditures, and make distributions to shareholders. We define adjusted EBITDAX, a non-GAAP financial measure, as EBITDAX adjusted for certain items presented in the accompanying reconciliation. Management uses adjusted EBITDAX to evaluate our ability to fund our capital expenditures, debt services and other operational requirements and to compare our results from period to period by eliminating the impact of certain items that management does not consider to be representative of the Company’s on-going operations. Management also believes adjusted EBITDAX facilitates investors and analysts in evaluating and comparing EBITDAX from period to period by eliminating differences caused by the existence and timing of certain operating expenses that would not otherwise be apparent on a GAAP basis. However, our presentation of adjusted EBITDAX may not be comparable to similar measures of other companies in our industry.

Net debt, or outstanding debt obligations less cash and cash equivalents, is a non-GAAP financial measure. Management uses net debt as a measure of the Company’s outstanding debt obligations that would not be readily satisfied by its cash and cash equivalents on hand.

Reconciliation of Income attributable to common stock to Adjusted earnings

Our presentation of adjusted earnings and adjusted earnings per share are non-GAAP measures because they exclude the effect of certain items included in Income Attributable to Common Stock. Management believes that adjusted earnings and adjusted earnings per share provides relevant and useful information, which is widely used by analysts, investors and competitors in our industry as well as by our management in assessing the Company’s operational trends and comparability of results to our peers.

Management uses adjusted earnings and adjusted earnings per share to evaluate our operating and financial performance because it eliminates the impact of certain items that management does not consider to be representative of the Company’s on-going business operations. As a performance measure, adjusted earnings may be useful to investors in facilitating comparisons to others in the Company’s industry because certain items can vary substantially in the oil and gas industry from company to company depending upon accounting methods, book value of assets, capital structure and asset sales and other divestitures, among other factors. Management believes excluding these items facilitates investors and analysts in evaluating and comparing the underlying operating and financial performance of our business from period to period by eliminating differences caused by the existence and timing of certain expense and income items that would not otherwise be apparent on a GAAP basis. However, our presentation of adjusted earnings and adjusted earnings per share may not be comparable to similar measures of other companies in our industry.
