How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

Comparable restaurant sales financial
"Comparable restaurant sales increased 2.1%"
Comparable restaurant sales measure how much revenue changed at locations that were open for a set prior period, excluding new or closed outlets, so it shows like-for-like sales performance. Investors use it as an 'apples-to-apples' gauge of customer demand, pricing power and operational health—rising comparable sales suggest stronger underlying business, while declines can signal weakening traffic or pricing issues even if overall revenue grows due to new openings.
Restaurant level operating margin financial
"Restaurant level operating margin was 23.3%"
Restaurant level operating margin measures how much profit a single restaurant keeps from its sales after paying the direct costs of running that location — things like food, beverage, hourly wages and day-to-day supplies — but before adding corporate overhead, interest, taxes or other company-wide expenses. Investors use it like a per-store health check: higher margins mean each location is more efficient and can better absorb corporate costs or support expansion, similar to knowing how much cash each shop generates before headquarters costs.
Adjusted diluted earnings per share financial
"Adjusted diluted earnings per share was $0.27"
Adjusted diluted earnings per share is the company’s net profit per share after accounting for potential extra shares (from options or convertible securities) and removing one‑time or unusual items so the number reflects ongoing business results. Think of it like timing a runner’s steady pace after excluding a few unexpected stops; it gives investors a clearer view of sustainable profit available to each share. Investors use it to compare companies and judge underlying profitability and valuation without short‑term distortions.
Digital sales financial
"Digital sales represented 38.8% of total food and beverage revenue"
Digital sales are revenue generated through online channels or from digital products and services—think purchases made in a virtual storefront, app, website, or by downloading a service rather than buying a physical item. Investors care because digital sales often scale faster, have lower distribution costs, and reveal how well a company reaches customers online, affecting growth prospects, profit margins, and long-term competitiveness.
Partner-operated restaurants financial
"Partner-operated restaurants represent Chipotle restaurants"
Partner-operated restaurants are outlets run day-to-day by outside operators—such as franchisees, local managers, or joint-venture partners—while the brand provides the name, recipes, supply chain and oversight. For investors this matters because it changes who pays for buildings and staff, how revenue and profit are shared, and how quickly the brand can expand; think of it like a homeowner letting a tenant run a shop under their name, shifting costs and risks away from the brand owner.
Total revenue $3.3 billion Increased 9.6% compared with Q3 2025.
Comparable restaurant sales 2.1%
Net income $339.9 million Compared with $382.1 million in Q3 2025.
Diluted EPS $0.27 Decreased 6.9% from $0.29 in Q3 2025.
Operating margin 13.7% Decreased from 15.9% in Q3 2025.
Restaurant level operating margin 23.3% Decreased from 24.5% in Q3 2025.

For 2027, management anticipates 340 to 360 new company-owned restaurant openings in the U.S. and Canada and around 15 to 25 company-owned and partner-operated restaurants outside the U.S. and Canada.

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – October 28, 2026 – Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (NYSE: CMG) today reported financial results for its third quarter ended September 30, 2026.
Third quarter highlights, year over year:
•Total revenue increased 9.6% to $3.3 billion
•Comparable restaurant sales increased 2.1%
•Operating margin was 13.7%, a decrease from 15.9%
•Restaurant level operating margin1 was 23.3%, a decrease from 24.5%
•Diluted earnings per share was $0.27, a 6.9% decrease from $0.29
•Adjusted diluted earnings per share1 was $0.27, a 6.9% decrease from $0.29
•Opened 84 company-owned restaurants, with 53 locations including a Chipotlane. We also opened five international partner-operated restaurants.
“Three consecutive quarters of positive comparable transaction growth demonstrates that our Recipe for Growth strategy is working,” said Scott Boatwright, Chief Executive Officer, Chipotle. “We're gaining traction with menu and digital innovation, making significant progress on our high-efficiency equipment rollout, and accelerating our global expansion with entry into three new markets this quarter. These achievements reinforce our confidence in the strategy and our ability to execute as we build Chipotle into an iconic global brand.”
Results for the three months ended September 30, 2026:
Total revenue in the third quarter of 2026 was $3.3 billion, an increase of 9.6% compared to the third quarter of 2025. The increase was driven by new restaurant openings and, to a lesser extent, comparable restaurant sales. Comparable restaurant sales increased 2.1%, including a 1.3% increase in average check and a 0.8% increase in transactions. Digital sales represented 38.8% of total food and beverage revenue for the three months ended September 30, 2026, an increase from 36.7% for the three months ended September 30, 2025.
During the third quarter we opened 84 company-owned restaurants, of which 53 included a Chipotlane, and five international partner-operated restaurants. Chipotlanes continue to perform well and are helping enhance guest access and convenience, as well as increase new restaurant sales, margins and returns.
Food, beverage and packaging costs in the third quarter of 2026 were 29.5% of total revenue, a decrease from 30.0% in the third quarter of 2025. The decrease was primarily driven by the benefit of menu price increases, tariff relief, and favorable limited-time offer mix. These benefits were partially offset by inflation, primarily in beef and freight, and higher protein usage.
1Restaurant level operating margin, adjusted diluted earnings per share, adjusted net income, adjusted general and administrative expenses, and non-GAAP effective income tax rate are non-GAAP financial measures. Reconciliations to GAAP measures and further information are set forth in the table at the end of this press release.

Labor costs in the third quarter of 2026 were 25.7% of total revenue, an increase from 25.2% in the third quarter of 2025. The increase was primarily driven by lower sales volumes, higher employee compensation, including wage inflation and performance-based bonuses, additional restaurant labor supporting operational execution including promotional activities, and increased insurance costs. These headwinds were partially offset by the benefit from menu price increases.
General and administrative expenses for the third quarter of 2026 were $185.2 million, compared to $146.7 million in the third quarter of 2025. The increase was driven by stock-based compensation, performance bonuses, and outside services related to corporate initiatives. Adjusted general and administrative expenses1 for the third quarter of 2026 were $183.8 million, compared to $138.7 million in the third quarter of 2025.
The effective income tax rate for the third quarter of 2026 was 25.6%, an increase from 23.1% in the third quarter of 2025. The increase was primarily due to an increase in nondeductible expenses and a reduction in tax credits.
Net income for the third quarter of 2026 was $339.9 million, or $0.27 per diluted share, compared to $382.1 million, or $0.29 per diluted share, in the third quarter of 2025. Adjusted net income1 for the third quarter of 2026 was $344.6 million, or $0.27 per adjusted diluted share, compared to $389.9 million, or $0.29 per adjusted diluted share, in the third quarter of 2025.
During the third quarter of 2026 we repurchased $110.0 million of stock at an average price per share of $34.05. As of September 30, 2026, $1.6 billion remained available under share repurchase authorizations from our Board of Directors. The repurchase authorization may be modified, suspended or discontinued at any time.
More information will be available in our Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q, which will be filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (the "SEC") in accordance with applicable rules.

RECONCILIATION OF NON-GAAP FINANCIAL MEASURES
Below are definitions of the non-GAAP financial measures in this release. The following tables provide a reconciliation of non-GAAP financial measures presented in this release to the most directly comparable financial measures calculated and presented in accordance with GAAP.
Adjusted net income is net income excluding restaurant asset impairment and stock-based compensation retention.
Adjusted diluted earnings per share is calculated by dividing adjusted net income by the diluted weighted-average number of common shares outstanding.
Adjusted general and administrative expenses are general and administrative expenses excluding expenses related to stock-based compensation expense for specified retention equity awards.
The adjusted effective income tax rate is the effective income tax rate adjusted to reflect the after-tax impact of non-GAAP adjustments.
Restaurant level operating margin is equal to the revenues generated by our restaurants less direct restaurant operating costs, which consist of food, beverage and packaging, labor, occupancy and other operating costs, expressed as a percent of total revenue. This performance measure primarily includes the costs that restaurant level managers can directly control and excludes other costs that are essential to conduct our business. Management uses restaurant level operating margin as a measure of restaurant performance. Management believes restaurant level operating margin is useful because it highlights trends in our core business that may not otherwise be apparent when relying solely on GAAP financial measures.
We present these non-GAAP measures to facilitate a meaningful evaluation of our operating performance across periods. These adjustments are intended to provide greater transparency of underlying performance and to allow investors to evaluate our business on the same basis as management, which uses these non-GAAP measures in evaluating our performance.
Our adjusted net income, adjusted diluted earnings per share, adjusted general and administrative expenses, adjusted effective income tax rate, and restaurant level operating margin measures may not be comparable to other companies’ adjusted measures. These adjustments are not necessarily indicative of what our actual financial performance would have been during the periods presented and should be viewed in addition to, and not as an alternative to, our results prepared in accordance with GAAP. Further details regarding these adjustments are included in the tables below.
