Rhea-AI Filing Summary

First Northern Community Bancorp (FNRN) reported third-quarter 2026 net income of $6.2 million, or $0.38 per diluted share, up 3.1% from $6.0 million, or $0.36, a year earlier. For the nine months ended September 30, 2026, net income was $16.8 million, or $1.02 per diluted share, up 11.1% from $15.2 million, or $0.91, in 2025.

Third-quarter net interest income was $19.366 million, up 14.95% year over year, and net interest margin was 4.12%, compared with 3.75%. As of September 30, 2026, assets were $1.99 billion, up $82.5 million (4.3%) year over year; net loans, including loans held-for-sale, were $1.13 billion, up $78.0 million (7.4%); deposits were $1.76 billion, up $74.1 million (4.4%).

The company said resolution of a longstanding nonaccrual lending relationship reduced nonaccrual loans by $1.2 million (25.6%) and contributed to $1.8 million more nonaccrual interest income recognized than in the same quarter of 2025; that increase was the primary driver of a $2.5 million rise in net interest income. It completed its core banking platform replacement on October 13, 2026, with additional project costs expected in the fourth quarter. The company said it remained “well capitalized,” exceeding the 10% total risk-based capital ratio threshold as of September 30, 2026.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

nonaccrual loans financial
"reduced nonaccrual loans by $1.2 million"
Nonaccrual loans are loans a lender has stopped counting toward interest income because the borrower is overdue or unlikely to pay; the lender only records cash payments received and may set aside extra funds to cover potential losses. For investors, a rising number or amount of nonaccrual loans signals weaker credit quality, lower future interest revenue and larger potential write-downs — similar to pausing expected subscription income when many customers stop paying.
net interest margin financial
"Net interest margin (annualized)"
Net interest margin measures how much a bank earns from lending and investing compared with what it pays for funding, expressed as a percentage of its interest-earning assets. Think of it like a grocery store’s markup: it shows the gap between buying cost and selling price per dollar of goods — here, the cost is interest paid and the sale is interest received. Investors watch it because a higher margin usually means a bank is more profitable and better at managing interest rate and credit conditions.
efficiency ratio financial
"Efficiency ratio"
A measure of how much a company spends to produce each dollar of revenue, usually shown as operating expenses divided by revenue and expressed as a percentage. Think of it as a household’s budget: a lower percentage means more of each dollar earned stays as profit, while a higher number means costs are eating into returns. Investors use it to judge cost control and compare how efficiently companies turn revenue into earnings, especially in banks and financial firms.
tangible common equity ratio financial
"Tangible common equity ratio"
Tangible common equity ratio measures how much real, loss-absorbing capital common shareholders have relative to a company's tangible assets—calculated by removing intangible items (like goodwill) and preferred equity from total equity and comparing that net amount to tangible assets. Think of it as the thickness of a safety cushion made of solid, visible value rather than accounting entries; investors use it to judge how well a company could withstand losses and protect common shareholders' claims.

Diluted earnings per common share $0.38 Up from $0.36 in third quarter 2025

First Northern Community Bancorp Reports Third Quarter 2026 Net Income of $6.2 Million

For immediate release

Dixon, Calif., October 29, 2026 — First Northern Community Bancorp (the “Company”, NASDAQ: FNRN), holding company for First Northern Bank (“First Northern” or the “Bank”), today reported net income of $16.8 million, or $1.02 per diluted share, for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, up 11.1% compared to net income of $15.2 million, or $0.91 per diluted share, for the nine months ended September 30, 2025.

Net income for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, was $6.2 million, or $0.38 per diluted share, up 3.1% compared to net income of $6.0 million, or $0.36 per diluted share, for the quarter ended September 30, 2025.

Total assets as of September 30, 2026, were $1.99 billion, an increase of $82.5 million, or 4.3%, compared to September 30, 2025. Total net loans, including loans held-for-sale, as of September 30, 2026, were $1.13 billion, an increase of $78.0 million, or 7.4%, compared to September 30, 2025. The increase in net loans was primarily driven by growth in commercial loans, which was partially offset by net reductions in commercial real estate, agriculture, residential mortgage and consumer loans. Total deposits as of September 30, 2026, were $1.76 billion, an increase of $74.1 million, or 4.4%, compared to September 30, 2025.

The Company continued to be “well capitalized” under regulatory definitions, exceeding the 10% total risk-based capital ratio threshold as of September 30, 2026.

Jeremiah Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, “First Northern continued strong momentum during the third quarter, highlighted by accelerating loan growth and solid deposit generation. Total loans increased $41.1 million during the quarter, representing an annualized growth rate of 14.7% for the three months ended September 30, 2026, compared to a 10.5% annualized growth rate for the nine months ended September 30, 2026. Total deposits increased $68.6 million during the quarter, representing an annualized growth rate of 16.1% for the three months ended September 30, 2026, compared to a 6.5% annualized growth rate for the nine months ended September 30, 2026."

“We also made meaningful progress in improving our credit quality with the successful resolution of a longstanding nonaccrual lending relationship. This resolution reduced nonaccrual loans by $1.2 million, or 25.6%, during the quarter and contributed to an increase of $1.8 million in nonaccrual interest income recognized when compared to the same quarter last year.  This increase in nonaccrual interest income recognized was the primary driver of the $2.5 million increase in net interest income when compared to the same quarter one year prior.”

“Beyond our financial results, we continued to execute on strategic initiatives designed to enhance long-term shareholder value. On October 13, we successfully completed a major system upgrade, replacing our core banking platform and establishing a modern technology foundation to support future growth, improve operational efficiency and reduce ongoing data processing costs. As anticipated, project-related investments contributed to a modest increase in non-interest expenses during the third quarter, with additional costs expected in the fourth quarter as we complete the upgrade."

“Together with our Nasdaq listing and inclusion in the Russell 3000 Index, these milestones represent significant progress in our long-term strategy. We remain focused on building a resilient, efficient and competitive bank while delivering lasting value to our customers, communities, employees, and shareholders.”
