Hancock Whitney Q3 2026 profit falls to $110M
The quarter included $1.7 billion of acquired OFB loans and $1.9 billion of acquired deposits, alongside an increase in nonaccrual loans.
Sentiment and the balance of points
Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.
Hancock Whitney Corporation reported third-quarter 2026 net income of $110.1 million, or $1.36 per diluted share, compared with $127.0 million and $1.55 in the second quarter. Results included $30.4 million of pretax supplemental items, or $0.30 per share, related to the OFB Bancshares acquisition; excluding those items, EPS was $1.66, up $0.11 linked-quarter. Hancock Whitney closed the OFB acquisition on August 1.
At September 30, loans were $26.5 billion, up $2.0 billion from June 30, and deposits were $32.2 billion, up $2.5 billion; the OFB acquisition contributed $1.7 billion of loans and $1.9 billion of deposits. Net interest margin was 3.61%, up 5 basis points. Criticized commercial loans fell $6.7 million to $485.3 million, while nonaccrual loans rose to $133.3 million. The estimated CET1 ratio was 11.53%, compared with 13.19% in the prior quarter. During the quarter, Hancock Whitney repurchased one million shares at an average $77.91 per share under a program authorizing repurchases of up to approximately 4.1 million shares and expiring December 31, 2026.
How this balance works
Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.
It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.
Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.
Positive
- Moderate pointAdjusted EPS rose 7% to $1.66 linked-quarter.

“We are pleased to share another quarter of solid results for the third quarter of 2026,” said John M. Hairston, President & CEO. “Profitability remains strong with adjusted EPS of $1.66, up 7% from prior quarter, adjusted ROA of 1.41%, and an improved efficiency ratio of 54.46%. We delivered strong loan and deposit growth, while NIM expanded 5 basis points to 3.61%. Our criticized loan levels decreased during the quarter and our ACL remains robust at 1.42%. On August 1, we were pleased to welcome new colleagues and clients through the acquisition of One Florida Bank. As 2026 draws to a close, we remain committed to executing on our organic growth plan and maintaining operational efficiency and a strong capital position.”

Compared to June 30, 2026, retail time deposits of $3.6 billion were up $174.2 million, or 5%, including $203.0 million acquired from OFB, partially offset by a net reduction driven by maturities and repricing during the third quarter of 2026.
Average deposits for the third quarter of 2026 were $30.9 billion, up $2.1 billion, or 7%, linked-quarter.
Asset Quality
The total allowance for credit losses (ACL) was $375.8 million at September 30, 2026, up $27.8 million, or 8% from June 30, 2026. Net interest income (TE) for the third quarter of 2026 was $314.9 million, an increase of $19.7 million, or 7%, from the second quarter of 2026. The net interest margin (NIM) (TE) was 3.61% in the third quarter of 2026, up 5 bps linked-quarter, driven by the impact from purchase accounting accretion related to OFB (+4 bps), favorable level of other borrowings (+1 bps), and change in earning asset yield and mix (+8 bps) offset by higher cost of deposits (-8 bps).
Average earning assets were $34.8 billion for the third quarter of 2026, up $1.6 billion, or 5%, from the second quarter of 2026.

Noninterest income totaled $107.0 million for the third quarter of 2026, down $1.4 million from the second quarter of 2026. The third quarter of 2026 included $0.6 million of post-acquisition noninterest income from OFB.

Investment and annuity income and insurance fees were down $0.8 million, or 5%, linked-quarter. Trust fees were down $1.1 million, or 4%, linked-quarter due partially to seasonality. Fees from secondary mortgage operations totaled $2.9 million for the third quarter of 2026, down $1.2 million, or 30%, linked-quarter, due to the current rate environment.
Other noninterest income was $15.2 million in the third quarter of 2026, up $0.7 million, or 5%, from the second quarter of 2026. The increase in other noninterest income was primarily due to $0.3 million post-acquisition activity from OFB, higher SBIC income, syndications fees, and FHLB stock income, partially offset by lower derivative and BOLI income.
Noninterest Expense & Taxes
Noninterest expense totaled $262.0 million for the third quarter of 2026, up $36.6 million, or 16% linked-quarter. The third quarter of 2026 included $5.8 million of post-acquisition noninterest expense from OFB and $29.4 million of supplemental disclosure items related to the acquisition of OFB. Non-GAAP Financial Measures
This news release includes non-GAAP financial measures to describe Hancock Whitney’s performance. These non-GAAP financial measures should not be considered alternatives to GAAP-basis financial statements and other bank holding companies may define or calculate these non-GAAP measures or similar measures differently. The reconciliations of those measures to GAAP measures are provided either in the financial tables or in Appendix A thereto.
Consistent with the provisions of subpart 229.1400 of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Regulation S-K, “Disclosures by Bank and Savings and Loan Registrants,” the company presents net interest income, net interest margin and efficiency ratios on a fully taxable equivalent (“TE”) basis. The TE basis adjusts for the tax-favored status of net interest income from certain loans and investments using the statutory federal tax rate to increase tax-exempt interest income to a taxable equivalent basis. The company believes this measure to be the preferred industry measurement of net interest income and it enhances comparability of net interest income arising from taxable and tax-exempt sources.
The company presents certain additional non-GAAP financial measures to assist the reader with a better understanding of the company’s performance period over period, as well as to provide investors with assistance in understanding the success management has experienced in executing its strategic initiatives. The company highlights certain items that are outside of our principal business and/or are not indicative of forward-looking trends in supplemental disclosures items below our GAAP financial data and presents certain “Adjusted” ratios that exclude these disclosed items. These adjusted ratios provide management or the reader with a measure that may be more indicative of forward-looking trends in our business, as well as demonstrates the effects of significant gains or losses and changes.
We define Adjusted Pre-Provision Net Revenue as net income excluding provision expense and income tax expense, plus the taxable equivalent adjustment (as defined above), less supplemental disclosure items (as defined above). Management believes that adjusted pre-provision net revenue is a useful financial measure because it enables investors and others to assess the company’s ability to generate capital to cover credit losses through a credit cycle. We define Adjusted Revenue as net interest income (te) and noninterest income less supplemental disclosure items. We define Adjusted Noninterest Expense as noninterest expense less supplemental disclosure items. We define our Efficiency Ratio as noninterest expense to total net interest income (te) and noninterest income, excluding amortization of purchased intangibles and supplemental disclosure items, if applicable. We define Adjusted Earnings Per Common Share – Diluted as GAAP diluted earnings per common share, adjusted for the after-tax effect of supplemental disclosure items using the applicable federal statutory tax rate. Management believes adjusted revenue, adjusted noninterest expense, the efficiency ratio and adjusted earnings per common share - diluted are useful measures as they provide a greater understanding of ongoing operations and enhance comparability with prior periods.

Current Hedge Positions Cash Flow (CF) Hedges Receive 300 bps versus paying 1-month SOFR on $1.95 billion Four additional hedges were executed while no terminations were made during the third quarter of 2026 Total termination value on remaining active CF hedges is approximately ($42) million as of 9/30/2026 Future maturities of existing CF hedges range from October 2026 through January 2031 Fair Value (FV) Hedges Pay an average fixed rate of 1.94% and receive variable rate at FF effective (resulting in these bonds being a variable rate of FF plus 41 bps) No FV hedges were terminated in 3Q26; however, one FV hedge became effective on 7/1/2026 and provided full quarter impact during 3Q26 The $359 million of FV hedges reduced the duration (market price risk) from approximately 5.0 years to 1.0 year on $388 million in hedged securities All $359 million in FV hedges have become effective and contribute to the total portfolio yield Current termination value of FV hedges is approximately $36 million at 9/30/2026 When FV hedges are terminated, the value of each hedge is an adjustment to the book value of the underlying security, thereby changing its current book yield and extending its duration
