Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

Rhea-AI Filing Summary

KOSS reported net sales of $3,094,078 for the first quarter of fiscal 2027, down $976,700, or 24.0%, from $4,070,778 a year earlier. It recorded a net loss of $234,168, compared with net income of $243,729, and basic and diluted net loss per common share of $0.02, versus income of $0.03. Loss from operations was $400,595, compared with $46,040; total other income, net was $168,661, compared with $292,529.

Management said a significant custom order for an Education customer's new product launch shipped in the prior-year quarter did not recur. European distributor sales were on par with the prior-year period, while direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales represented approximately 37% of total turnover and continued to positively impact sales growth. Gross margin declined 50 basis points to 39.5% from 40.0%. Favorable customer mix and a final $76,000 refund of previously paid import duties on product from China were offset by fixed manufacturing overhead absorption on a lower sales base and higher freight rates, including general rate increases and peak season surcharges.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

The weighted-average number of shares is the count of a company’s common shares adjusted for the portion of the reporting period each share was outstanding and for certain potential shares from stock-based compensation or convertible securities. It turns a changing headcount of shares into a single average, like averaging the number of people in a room over time when some arrive or leave; investors use it to calculate per-share metrics (for example, earnings per share) so comparisons are consistent.

Koss Corporation Reports First Quarter Results

Milwaukee, Wisconsin: Koss Corporation (NASDAQ: KOSS) (the “Company”),  the U.S. based high-fidelity headphone company, has reported its results for the first quarter ended September 30, 2026.

Net sales for the first quarter ended September 30, 2026 were $3,094,078, a decline of $976,700, or 24.0%, compared to net sales of $4,070,778 for the three months ended September 30, 2025. A net loss of $234,168 was generated for the three months ended September 30, 2026 compared to net income of $243,729 for the same period in the prior year. Basic and diluted net loss per common share for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 was $0.02 compared to basic and diluted net income per common share of $0.03 for the same three-month period one year ago.

“Sales to certain domestic distributors were strong in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 compared with the prior-year period.  However, the significant custom order that shipped in the first quarter of last year for an Education customer’s new product launch did not recur this year. European distributor sales for the three months ended September 30, 2026 were on par to those for the same period in the prior year, supported by necessary inventory replenishment orders,” Michael J. Koss, Chairman and CEO, said today. “Direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales continue to positively impact sales growth and now represent approximately 37% of the Company’s total turnover.”

Koss continued, “The Company’s gross margin declined 50 basis points to 39.5% in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, compared with 40.0% a year earlier.  The benefit to gross margins of a favorable customer mix of higher margin DTC and domestic distributor sales, along with the recognition of a final tariff refund of $76,000 for previously paid import duties on product from China, were negated by the impact of fixed manufacturing overhead absorption on a lower sales base, coupled with higher freight rates due to general rate increases and peak season surcharges.”

“We remain encouraged by the strength of our domestic distributor business and the growing contribution of DTC sales, which position the Company to build on these positive trends as the fiscal year progresses,” Koss concluded.
