How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

book-to-bill ratio financial
"Bookings of $583 million represented a book-to-bill ratio of 1.4"
The book-to-bill ratio compares the value of new orders a company receives to the value of products it ships out or bills for over a certain period. If the ratio is above 1, it means the company is getting more orders than it is completing, which can indicate growth. If it's below 1, it suggests demand is slowing down.
non-GAAP diluted earnings per share financial
"increasing its fiscal 2027 non-GAAP diluted earnings per share guidance"
Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share is a company’s per-share profit figure that starts with reported net income but then removes or alters certain items (like one-time charges, stock-based pay, or other adjustments) and divides by the number of shares after accounting for things that could dilute ownership. Investors use it as a “cleaned-up” measure to judge ongoing profit on a per-share basis, but because companies choose what to adjust, it can be more subjective than the standard GAAP metric—like comparing a regular bank statement to one that omits irregular expenses to show a steadier month-to-month picture.
intersegment sales financial
"increasing 9% year-over-year including intersegment sales"
Sales of goods or services that one division or business unit of a company makes to another division within the same company, recorded to show how internal parts of the business trade with each other. Investors care because these internal transactions can make a company’s total revenue and profit by segment look larger or smaller than actual customer demand, so analysts strip out or adjust for them to see how each line of business really performs—like departments within a store charging each other for supplies.
adjusted operating margin financial
"achieving adjusted operating margin expansion"
Adjusted operating margin shows how much profit a company makes from its core business activities, after removing unusual or one-time costs and income. It helps investors see the company's true profitability by providing a clearer picture, similar to removing unexpected expenses to understand the regular performance. This metric is useful for comparing companies or tracking performance over time, as it highlights consistent earning power.

HAWTHORNE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 29, 2026—OSI Systems, Inc. (the “Company” or “OSI Systems”) (NASDAQ: OSIS) today announced its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal 2027.

Ajay Mehra, OSI Systems’ President and Chief Executive Officer, stated, “We are pleased to begin fiscal 2027 with record first quarter revenues and earnings per share, led by the performance of our Security and Optoelectronics and Manufacturing divisions. Bookings of $583 million represented a book-to-bill ratio of 1.4 in the quarter, and backlog increased to a record of $2.1 billion from $1.9 billion as of June 30, 2026, providing meaningful visibility into future opportunities. We remain committed to disciplined execution and innovation, and converting our expanding opportunity pipeline into long-term growth.”

Cash flow provided by operating activities  $17,137   $37,088
Capital expenditures  $7,028   $7,655

Mr. Mehra further commented, “The Security division delivered a solid quarter despite continued geopolitical headwinds. Strong bookings led to record divisional backlog and reflected robust customer demand for our security inspection and surveillance products, integrated solutions, and services. The operating margin was impacted by a less favorable mix of revenues; however, we expect this to improve over the remainder of the fiscal year as our revenue mix stabilizes and service revenues increase. We are enthusiastic about the outlook for this division over the balance of fiscal 2027 and beyond.”

Mr. Mehra continued, “Our Optoelectronics and Manufacturing division delivered strong fiscal first-quarter results with revenues increasing 9% year-over-year including intersegment sales and 16% year-over-year from sales to external customers, while also achieving adjusted operating margin expansion. The division continued to benefit from its vertically integrated capabilities, broad customer relationships, and diversified manufacturing footprint leading to a strong book-to-bill ratio resulting in record backlog for this division. We remain focused on supporting growth while maintaining disciplined operational execution.”

Mr. Mehra concluded, “The performance of the Healthcare division was soft in the quarter, but we are focused on improving performance and anticipate a return to growth this fiscal year.”

Alan Edrick, OSI Systems’ Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, stated, “Operating cash flow more than doubled in the first fiscal quarter over the prior year Q1 to $37 million, and we finished the quarter with approximately $302 million of cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments. In August 2026, our board of directors authorized an additional 1 million shares to the existing share repurchase program. The Company repurchased 305,559 shares during the first quarter of fiscal 2027 resulting in total capital returned to shareholders through repurchases of approximately $62 million. As of September 30, 2026, there are 773,172 shares remaining under our repurchase authorization.”

The Company is reaffirming its fiscal 2027 revenue guidance and increasing its fiscal 2027 non-GAAP diluted earnings per share guidance, as set forth above. Actual revenues and non-GAAP diluted earnings per share could vary from this guidance due to factors discussed under “Forward-Looking Statements” or other factors.

The Company’s fiscal 2027 diluted earnings per share guidance is provided on a non-GAAP basis only. The Company does not provide a reconciliation of guidance for non-GAAP diluted EPS to GAAP diluted EPS (the most directly comparable GAAP measure) on a forward-looking basis because the Company is unable to provide a meaningful or accurate compilation of reconciling items and certain information is not available. This is due to the inherent difficulty and complexity in accurately forecasting the timing and amounts of various items included in the calculation of GAAP diluted EPS but excluded in the calculation of non-GAAP diluted EPS, such as acquisition costs and other non-recurring items that have not yet occurred, are out of the Company’s control or cannot otherwise reasonably be predicted. For the same reasons, the Company is unable to address the significance of unavailable information which may be material and therefore could result in GAAP diluted EPS being materially different from projected non-GAAP diluted EPS.
