Insights

Petrobras announces a new Campos Basin oil find, but its scale is still undefined.

The disclosure describes an oil discovery in the post-salt Sudoeste de Tartaruga Verde block in the Campos Basin, where Petrobras holds 100% participation under a production-sharing contract managed by PPSA. The exploratory well 4-BRSA-1403D-RJS, located 108 km offshore at 734 meters water depth, confirmed an oil-bearing interval through logs, gas shows, and fluid sampling.

The company states that collected fluid samples will be sent for laboratory analysis to characterize reservoir and fluid conditions. This indicates the discovery is at an early appraisal stage, with no disclosed volumes, development plan, or cost framework. The information primarily signals geological potential rather than defined reserves.

Future updates on this block’s evaluation and any move toward a development project would be expected in subsequent company communications once laboratory analyses and broader assessments of the area’s potential are completed.
