Rhea-AI Filing Summary

Vodafone Group reported that Vodafone Türkiye acquired 100 MHz of 5G spectrum for US$627 million (€539 million) in an ICTA auction. The package includes 2 x 10 MHz in 700 MHz and 80 MHz in 3.5 GHz, with spectrum availability from April 2026 and licence expiry on 31 December 2042. The company plans to launch 5G services during 2026.

Payments are interest free and phased over three financial years: US$209 million (€180 million) due in January 2026, then US$209 million (€180 million) in December 2026 and May 2027. Separately, renewal terms for existing licences due in 2029 have been agreed, with all operators paying an annual licence fee of 5% of mobile service revenue from 2029 to retain current spectrum, aiming to provide long‑term certainty and a healthier market environment.

Insights

Material 5G spectrum win with staged, interest-free payments.

Vodafone Türkiye secured US$627 million of 5G spectrum covering low-band 700 MHz (2 x 10 MHz) and mid-band 3.5 GHz (80 MHz). Low-band aids wide coverage and indoor reach, while mid-band supports capacity and speeds critical for early 5G use cases. Spectrum becomes available in April 2026 and runs to 31 December 2042, aligning with a long deployment horizon.

Cash commitments are phased and interest free: three equal tranches of US$209 million in January 2026, December 2026, and May 2027. This structure may ease near-term cash outflow compared to a lump sum. The note that amounts exclude VAT is relevant for total cash planning.

From 2029, retention of existing spectrum requires an 5% annual fee on mobile service revenue for all operators. This provides policy visibility but ties future cost to revenue. Commercial impact will depend on execution of 5G rollout in 2026 and market adoption.
