Accuray Reports Fiscal 2027 First Quarter Financial Results
Service revenue and margins improved, while product revenue, orders and backlog declined year over year.
Sentiment and the balance of points
Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.
Rhea-AI Summary
Accuray (ARAY) reported fiscal 2027 first-quarter revenue of $86.5 million, down year over year as product sales declined. For the quarter ended September 30, 2026, revenue fell 8%, with product revenue down 26% and service revenue up 4%. Gross margin rose to 30.1% from 28.8%.
Net income was $10.1 million, or $0.07 per diluted share, including a $59.6 million non-cash debt-extinguishment gain and $35.4 million goodwill impairment. Excluding both, net loss narrowed to $14.0 million from $21.7 million. Adjusted EBITDA turned positive at $2.5 million. Gross product orders fell to $19.8 million from $39.6 million; backlog declined approximately 31% to $272.0 million.
After quarter end, shareholders approved proposals to help enable TCW financing, including a $40 million debt exchange for convertible preferred equity. Accuray continues not to provide formal fiscal 2027 revenue or adjusted EBITDA guidance.
How this balance works
Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.
It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.
Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

investment associated with its previously announced financing transaction with TCW in July. After quarter end, stockholders approved the proposals needed to help enable the Company to complete the financing transaction with TCW, including the$15 million exchange of term loan debt for convertible preferred equity. These actions are intended to reduce leverage, enhance liquidity, and provide greater flexibility to execute our strategy.$40 million
"As I said on our last call, fiscal 2026 was a year of transformation, and fiscal 2027 is about execution," said Steve La Neve, President and Chief Executive Officer of Accuray. "During the first quarter, we made progress across several areas. Service margins improved, operating expenses remained well controlled, we strengthened our financial position, and we advanced our innovation roadmap through strategic partnerships with RaySearch and Samsung NeuroLogica. By combining our strengths in precision treatment delivery and real-time motion management with enhanced imaging and adaptive capabilities, we believe we can further differentiate our platforms and deliver greater value for clinicians and patients."
Mr. La Neve continued, "At the same time, we see a clear opportunity to improve product and order performance. The customer engagement we saw at ASTRO, the growing clinical evidence supporting precision radiation therapy, and the opportunities created by our innovation strategy reinforce our confidence in the direction we are taking. Our focus now is on turning that engagement into orders and revenue, and on pairing the operating discipline we have built with stronger commercial performance. We know what we need to execute, and our team is focused on delivering."

Fiscal Year 2027 Financial Guidance
The Company continues not to provide formal revenue or Adjusted EBITDA guidance for fiscal 2027. After a fiscal 2026 focused on transformation, its priority in fiscal 2027 is execution. That means building on the progress made in service margins, cost structure and financial flexibility, and turning commercial engagement into stronger product revenue and order performance. With a more efficient business model in place, the Company believes it is well positioned to execute on its strategic priorities in fiscal 2027.

Use of Non-GAAP Financial Measures
Accuray reports its financial results in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles in
Accuray has supplemented its GAAP net income (loss) with a non-GAAP measure of adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization, stock-based compensation, changes to the fair value of warrant liability, gain on extinguishment of debt, goodwill impairment and restructuring charges ("adjusted EBITDA"). The calculation of adjusted EBITDA also excludes certain non-recurring, irregular and one-time items. Management believes that this non-GAAP financial measure provides useful supplemental information to management and investors regarding the performance of the company and facilitates a meaningful comparison of results for current periods with previous operating results. A reconciliation of GAAP net income (loss) (the most directly comparable GAAP measure) to non-GAAP adjusted EBITDA is provided in the schedules below.
Accuray has also reported certain operating results on a constant currency basis in order to facilitate period-to-period comparisons of its results without regard to the impact of foreign currency exchange rate fluctuations. Management believes disclosure of non-GAAP constant currency results is helpful to investors because it facilitates period-to-period comparisons of the company's results by increasing the transparency of the underlying performance by excluding the impact of foreign currency exchange rate fluctuations. The GAAP measure most directly comparable to net revenue on a constant currency basis is revenue. Accuray calculates the constant currency amounts by translating local currency amounts in the current period using the same foreign translation rate used in the prior period being compared against rather than the actual exchange rate in effect during the current period.
There are limitations in using these non-GAAP financial measures because they are not prepared in accordance with GAAP and may be different from non-GAAP financial measures used by other companies. These non-GAAP financial measures should not be considered in isolation or as a substitute for GAAP financial measures. Investors and potential investors should consider non-GAAP financial measures only in conjunction with the company's consolidated financial statements prepared in accordance with GAAP.

FAQ
AI-generated questions and answers. How Rhea-AI works. Not financial advice.
What were Accuray's fiscal 2027 first-quarter earnings?
Accuray reported $10.1 million in net income, or $0.07 per diluted share, for the quarter ended September 30, 2026. Results included a $59.6 million non-cash debt-extinguishment gain and $35.4 million non-cash goodwill impairment. Excluding both items, net loss was $14.0 million, or $0.10 per diluted share.
How did Accuray's orders and backlog perform in fiscal 2027's first quarter?
Gross product orders were $19.8 million, compared with $39.6 million a year earlier, while backlog was $272.0 million at September 30, 2026, approximately 31% below the prior-year quarter-end. The book-to-bill ratio was 0.7, compared with 1.1 a year earlier.
Why did Accuray recognize a debt-extinguishment gain before completing the TCW debt exchange?
The July financing added a contingent conversion feature to Term Loan B and the Delayed Draw Term Loan, triggering debt-extinguishment accounting and recognition of replacement loans at fair value. The gain primarily reflected the difference between the existing loans' net carrying amounts and the replacement loans' fair value; recognition did not depend on completing the debt-for-equity exchange.
