Key Terms

operational technology technical
Operational technology is the physical equipment and specialized software that directly control machines, sensors and processes in factories, energy grids, transportation systems and buildings — think of it as a facility’s control panel and nervous system. Investors care because problems, upgrades or cyberattacks in this area can halt production, raise costs, require large capital spending, or trigger safety and regulatory issues that affect revenue and valuation.
wi-fi 6 technical
Wi‑Fi 6 is the latest mainstream wireless networking standard that makes home and business Wi‑Fi faster, more reliable, and better at handling many connected devices at once. For investors it matters because companies that adopt or enable Wi‑Fi 6 can offer improved customer experiences and support higher device density—think of adding highway lanes and smarter traffic lights to reduce congestion—potentially boosting sales, product value, and network-related revenue.
ip67 technical
IP67 is an industry durability rating that tells how well a product is sealed against dust and temporary water exposure: the first digit (6) means it’s fully dust-tight, and the second digit (7) means it can survive being submerged roughly one meter deep for about 30 minutes. For investors, an IP67 rating signals stronger product reliability and wider market appeal—potentially fewer returns, lower warranty costs, and access to customers who need rugged or outdoor-ready devices, which can affect sales and brand value.
l2/l3 switches technical
L2/L3 switches are networking devices that direct data inside and between computer networks: L2 switches forward traffic within the same local network like a building's internal mail sorter, while L3 switches can also route traffic between different networks like a post office deciding the correct neighborhood. Investors pay attention because these switches affect network performance, scalability, security and costs—factors that influence capital spending, operating expenses and the competitive position of hardware and cloud infrastructure providers.
virtual firewall technical
A virtual firewall is software that controls and monitors network traffic in cloud or virtual environments the way a physical firewall does for on-site networks; think of it as a security guard that checks who can enter which digital rooms. For investors, it matters because demand for virtual firewalls reflects companies’ spending on cloud security and can affect revenue growth and risk profiles for firms that sell or rely on cloud services.

New rugged, secure OT infrastructure from field to core for distributed I/O, long-distance Wi-Fi 6, 10 GE backbone scale and OT cybersecurity

ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Belden Inc. (NYSE: BDC), a leading global provider of complete connection solutions, today announced the launch of new products and software enhancements designed to help customers build more efficient, resilient and secure IT/OT networks—spanning fiber infrastructure, industrial connectivity, network management and access control.

Operational Technology (OT) networks across transportation, energy and manufacturing are being asked to do more: capture more field data, support faster response and connect more remote assets – without compromising uptime, predictable performance or security. Belden’s latest rugged infrastructure launches are designed to help operators start in OT and scale to IT with secure, edge-to-core connectivity in harsh, distributed environments:

  • Belden LioN-X IO-Link Masters deliver rugged digital machine-mount sensor connectivity for distributed industrial I/O, reducing cabinet wiring complexity while improving device visibility, diagnostics and real-time data access at the edge.
  • Hirschmann IT DAP849 Wireless Access Points add Wi-Fi 6 capabilities in an IP67 enclosure with two fiber uplinks to support longer-distance connectivity and reliable performance in harsh, high electromagnetic interference environments.
  • Hirschmann GREYHOUND GRS2000 L2/L3 Switches provide high-density rugged switching with backbone connectivity up to 10 GE to support network expansion and future-ready industrial infrastructure.
  • Belden Virtual Firewall TBF-800V defends against OT-targeted cyber threats while maintaining the network uptime that OT environments demand.

Across transportation, energy and manufacturing industries, these four innovations work as a system: connecting field data where it’s created, moving it reliably across the OT environment and protecting it as it reaches the IT layer. The result is a modernized edge-to-core OT network with better visibility, broader connectivity and more secure IT/OT convergence.

Additional new products and enhancements include:

  • Belden FiberExpress XHD Fiber Angled Patch Panel
  • Hirschmann Industrial HiVision Version 8.7 – New features
  • macmon NAC 6.5.0 and 6.6.0 – New features
