Selects Box as a content platform to accelerate secure AI adoption across the bank

TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Box, Inc. (NYSE:BOX), the leading Intelligent Content Management (ICM) platform, today announced that The Ogaki Kyoritsu Bank, Ltd. (Head Office: Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture; President: Takaharu Hayashi) has selected Box Enterprise Advanced as an AI-ready content platform for the entire bank and began rolling out the platform.

The Ogaki Kyoritsu Bank (OKB) positions AI as a “partner that maximizes the value of people” and is working to improve and enhance its operations. To achieve this goal, the bank is building an environment in which AI can securely use necessary internal information across the organization.

At OKB, the use of structured data organized in a standardized manner, such as data managed by core banking systems, had progressed. However, unstructured data—including procedural guides, rules and regulations, manuals, and various Office documents—was dispersed across departments and systems, creating challenges for cross-organizational use by AI. Through this adoption, the bank will use Box as a “content lake” for unstructured data and centrally manage content across the bank, thereby building a corporate content platform that can be readily used by AI while improving employee productivity. In addition, Box was highly valued for its broad range of security and governance capabilities, including protection against information leakage through granular access controls and content protection features, ransomware protection to ensure the recoverability of content as an information asset, and audit support through the management of logs and audit trails.

Key Use Cases and Objectives Enabled by the Adoption of Box

  • Shortening information search and discovery time: By using Box Hubs and Box AI to create an environment where employees can quickly find the information they need, the bank aims to reduce the time spent “searching” and “asking others.”
  • Reducing time spent responding to inquiries: By consolidating inquiries that can be resolved independently into knowledge on Box and leveraging AI-generated answers, the bank aims to reduce response time for both those asking and answering questions.
  • Improving review process efficiency: By using Box custom agents, the bank will streamline routine review tasks.
  • Supporting business operations through cross-functional use of structured and unstructured data via an AI agent platform.

“To use AI as a partner that maximizes the value of people, it is essential to create an environment in which AI can securely and appropriately access the information it needs,” says Tomohiro Kozakai, General Manager of the Digital Management Division, Ogaki Kyoritsu Bank. “By using Box as the content platform for the entire bank, we will centrally manage previously dispersed unstructured data under appropriate access controls and create an environment that enables us to make more effective use of the knowledge accumulated within the bank. Going forward, in addition to using Box AI, we will look toward an AI agent platform that can use structured and unstructured data across the organization, with the aim of enhancing our operations and further increasing the value we provide to customers.”

“We are honored that Ogaki Kyoritsu Bank has selected Box as its AI-ready content platform for the entire bank,” says Noriyuki Sato, President of Box Japan. “To turn AI into business outcomes, it is important not only to use AI models, but also to securely manage the content accumulated within an enterprise and prepare it so that AI can use it under appropriate permissions. Box provides centralized management of unstructured data, security and governance, and AI-powered content utilization on a single platform. We will support Ogaki Kyoritsu Bank in transforming its operations and further enhancing the value it provides to customers.”

Key Terms

unstructured data technical
Unstructured data is information that doesn’t fit neatly into rows and columns—think emails, reports, images, audio, and social media posts rather than spreadsheets. Like a cluttered attic full of useful items, it can hide customer feedback, operational problems or market trends that matter to investors; extracting those signals requires special tools, and firms that do so can gain insights that improve forecasts, reduce risk and create competitive advantage.
granular access controls technical
Fine-grained permission settings that control which specific users, groups, devices, or applications can view, modify, or execute particular data, systems, or functions. Granular access controls work by defining small, specific access rules (for example by role, attribute, resource, action, time, or context) and enforcing them through identity management, authentication and authorization checks, and audit logging; they differ from coarse controls that grant broad, blanket access and enable enforcement of least-privilege and segregation-of-duties principles within an organization. Their operation depends on clearly defined identities, policies, and enforcement points; they do not by themselves guarantee compliance unless combined with governance and monitoring.
ransomware protection technical
Ransomware protection is the set of technical tools, policies, and processes a company uses to prevent, detect, contain, and recover from ransomware attacks—malware that locks or encrypts data until a payment is demanded. For investors it matters because the strength of those protections affects the risk of business disruption, unexpected costs, regulatory penalties, and reputational damage; think of it as the company’s insurance and fire alarm system for digital emergencies.
audit trails technical
A record of every step, change and action taken on financial records, transactions or documents that creates a clear ‘breadcrumb trail’ from start to finish. Investors care because it lets auditors, regulators and shareholders verify that numbers are accurate, trace the cause of errors or suspicious activity, and assess whether controls are working — much like CCTV footage helps confirm what really happened in an incident.
