Starting from sixth position, Palou led the final 14 laps of the race, averaging 168.883 mph to secure victory. The race, witnessed by nearly 300,000 spectators, saw Palou finish ahead of American David Malukas from A.J. Foyt Racing. To commemorate his 2025 victory, Palou's face will be added for the first time onto the Borg-Warner Trophy alongside 111 previous winners. Palou, three-time IndyCar Series season champion, extended his tremendous 2025 IndyCar series points lead, winning 5 out of the first 6 races, and is looking to earn a fourth title later this season.
This marked the sixth Indy 500 team win for Chip Ganassi Racing, with previous winners Juan Pablo Montoya (2000), Scott Dixon (2008), Dario Franchitti (2010, 2012), and Marcus Ericsson (2022).

After the start of the race was delayed because of rain, nearly 300,000 spectators watched Palou cross the finish line ahead of American David Malukas of A.J. Foyt Racing. Palou gained the lead on the 187th lap and held the top spot until the end of the race. Defending back-to-back winner Josef Newgarden, driving for Team Penske, was looking to win again and be the only driver to win three consecutive Indy 500s but did not finish the race after technical difficulties in the 135th lap.
