minority investments financial
An ownership stake in a company that is less than a controlling interest, typically under 50% of the voting shares, so the investor cannot unilaterally direct management or major corporate decisions. It matters to investors because minority investments can provide exposure to a company's growth and dividends without control, affect how returns are reported on financial statements, and involve different risks—think of being a roommate with a vote but not the landlord.
