"FDIC-insured" means that a bank or savings institution is protected by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, which guarantees that depositors will get back their money up to a certain limit if the bank fails. This insurance provides peace of mind, similar to a safety net, ensuring that your savings are protected even if the bank encounters financial trouble. It helps build trust and confidence for people saving or investing their money in banks.
deposit insuranceregulatory
Deposit insurance is a government-backed guarantee that protects savers’ money held at banks or credit unions up to a set limit if the institution fails. It matters to investors because it reduces the risk that cash parked in bank accounts will be lost, similar to how a seatbelt reduces injury risk — it doesn’t prevent accidents but limits the damage, preserves liquidity, and supports confidence in the financial system.
pass-through deposit insuranceregulatory
Pass-through deposit insurance is a rule that lets insured protection follow the actual owner of funds held by an intermediary — for example, a brokerage, trust, or pension custodian — so each individual beneficiary can be insured separately rather than the intermediary as a whole. Think of it like a single safe containing many numbered envelopes: regulators treat each envelope’s contents as insured to the individual named, which matters to investors because it affects how much cash held through third parties is truly protected and therefore changes perceived safety and counterparty risk.
