More than 1,000 Homes and Businesses Gain Access to America’s Smartest and Most Reliable Converged WiFi Network for the First Time

BEAUFORT & EDISTO, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Comcast’s Xfinity today announced that more than 1,000 new homes and businesses in Beaufort and Edisto now have access to multi-gigabit Internet from America’s smartest and most reliable, converged network. The completed network expansions extend Xfinity’s fiber-powered network across South Carolina’s Lowcountry, reaching Beaufort County and the Charleston County portion of Edisto.

“Bringing Xfinity’s network to more residents and businesses in Beaufort and Edisto unlocks far more than faster Internet connection,” said Keir Murray, Vice President of Local Government & Community Affairs, South Carolina. “Customers can now access an integrated suite of Xfinity products – from multi-gig Internet and Mobile to entertainment and Xfinity Shield – that work together to keep them connected, entertained and protected. Reaching underserved communities often requires collaboration and a shared commitment to closing connectivity gaps. Through public-private partnerships supported by federal American Rescue Plan Act funding, Comcast was able to bring its network farther into Beaufort and Edisto – reaching homes and businesses in areas where the cost and complexity of construction can make broadband expansion challenging. The Beaufort County expansion was supported through the Capital Projects Fund, while the Edisto expansion built upon a previously funded State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds project.

Residents can visit Xfinity.com and businesses should visit ComcastBusiness.com to see if their address is eligible for service. The expansions in Beaufort and Edisto are part of Comcast’s continued investment in South Carolina, which also includes a network expansion in Hampton County.
