M2S Group Surpasses $1 Billion in Annual Revenue with Acquisition of Heartland Label Printers

(Very Positive)

Key Terms

direct thermal technical
A direct thermal printing method creates images by applying heat to specially coated paper or labels, causing the heat-sensitive layer to darken without using ink, toner, or ribbons. It matters to investors because this technology changes product and consumable costs, equipment maintenance, and the types of markets and durability requirements a company serves—think of it like a toaster browning bread: heat directly alters the material to form the image.
thermal transfer technical
A printing method where heat from a print head melts ink from a coated ribbon and transfers it onto a label, tag, or other material, producing durable text or images—similar to using a hot iron to press dye into fabric. It matters to investors because it affects product labeling quality, regulatory compliance, production speed, consumable costs, and equipment investment in industries that rely on barcodes, serial numbers, or durable packaging.
linerless technical
Linerless refers to self-adhesive labels or tape that is produced without the usual paper or plastic backing (release liner) that must be peeled off before use. Think of a roll of postage stamps where each stamp is sticky on one side but there is no extra paper between them. It matters to investors because linerless products reduce material waste, lower shipping and storage costs, and can change capital needs for labeling equipment and manufacturing processes, affecting margins and sustainability metrics.
variable information labels technical
Labels on products or packaging whose printed or electronic content changes from item to item or over time, such as batch numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, warnings, serial numbers, or customer-specific instructions. Like changing the address on a letter before mailing, these labels let manufacturers and regulators track, trace and communicate up-to-date, legally required information for each unit. Investors watch them because they affect production processes, quality control, compliance costs and the ability to sell into regulated markets.

Acquisition expands Iconex's variable information label capabilities, manufacturing capacity, and geographic reach.

ROSEMONT, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- M2S Group ("M2S"), a portfolio company of Wynnchurch Capital, L.P. ("Wynnchurch"), announced today that its Iconex business has acquired Heartland Label Printers ("Heartland"), a North American manufacturer of direct thermal, thermal transfer, linerless, and specialty variable information labels. The acquisition expands Iconex's manufacturing footprint, enhances its production capabilities, and further strengthens its position in the variable information label market, and increases M2S Group's annual revenue to more than $1 billion.

Headquartered in Little Chute, Wisconsin, Heartland manufactures stock and custom-printed direct thermal, thermal transfer, linerless, and specialty variable information labels. The company employs more than 170 team members and operates manufacturing facilities in Wisconsin and California.
