ROSEMONT, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Trimlite, a value-added distributor of residential doors and door products and a portfolio company of Wynnchurch Capital, L.P. ("Wynnchurch"), today announced the acquisition of KW Building Products, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Clay-Ingels, LLC ("KW"), a wholesale distributor of residential doors, windows, and related building products serving customers across the Mid-South and Central United States.

Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky, KW serves independent and national pro dealers through locations in Lexington and Indianapolis. KY distributes interior and exterior doors, windows, moldings, jambs, casings and related building products and provides door-hanging and other value-added services.

“Over nearly four decades, KW has distinguished itself through exceptional product quality, responsive service, and a deep commitment to its customers,” said Patrick Hooper, CEO of Trimlite. “Tim, Will, and the entire KW organization have built an impressive business with a talented team and a strong presence in the markets they serve. We are excited to welcome them to Trimlite and work together to carry that legacy forward.”

"Trimlite shares our commitment to customers, employees, and operational excellence, making Trimlite the right partner for KW," said Tim Hicks, President of KW. “The combination brings together a broader product offering, long-standing customer relationships and scalable distribution capabilities.”

“Bringing KW and Trimlite together advances our strategy of building a broader, more diversified provider of value-added door products and services,” said Brian Crumbaugh, Partner at Wynnchurch. “KW extends the platform into attractive adjacent markets while adding meaningful distribution scale and a highly regarded product portfolio. We are pleased to support Patrick, Tim, Will Hicks, Dennis Steffey, and their teams as they capitalize on the opportunities ahead.”

Since Wynnchurch's acquisition of Trimlite in July 2021, Trimlite has completed five acquisitions, including three acquisitions in 2026, expanding its product offering, capabilities, and geographic reach.

Key Terms

recapitalizations financial
Recapitalizations are deliberate changes to a company's mix of debt and equity—like rearranging the pieces of a household budget—to alter how the business is funded and who bears financial risk. Investors care because swapping debt for equity or vice versa affects future interest payments, potential profit per share, dilution of ownership and who controls decisions; those shifts can change a stock's risk profile, credit standing and upside potential.
corporate carve-outs financial
A corporate carve-out is when a company separates and sells or spins off one of its business units, creating a standalone company or bringing in outside investors for that unit. For investors, carve-outs can unlock hidden value, change the parent company’s cash, debt and growth profile, and create new investment opportunities or risks—think of taking a room out of a house to sell separately so both the room and the remaining house may be valued differently.
management buyouts financial
A management buyout is a transaction in which a company’s existing managers acquire a controlling stake in the business, typically using a mix of their own money and outside financing. It matters to investors because it changes who controls the company and can alter strategy, capital structure, and liquidity—like a store’s managers buying the shop from its owners, which can affect how the business is run and whether its shares remain publicly traded.
restructurings financial
Restructurings involve making significant changes to a company's operations, finances, or organizational structure to improve its stability and long-term prospects. Think of it like reorganizing a cluttered house to make it more functional and efficient; similarly, companies adjust their resources, debts, or management to become stronger. For investors, restructurings can signal efforts to recover from difficulties or prepare for future growth, influencing their decisions.
