medicare provider analysis and review (medpar)medical
MEDPAR (Medicare Provider Analysis and Review) is a large government database that records hospital inpatient stays and related billing details for Medicare beneficiaries, acting like a detailed ledger of who was treated, why, and what Medicare paid. Investors use it to spot trends in hospital use, reimbursement patterns, patient mix and cost drivers—helpful for gauging a health system’s revenue stability, operational efficiency and exposure to changes in Medicare payment rules.
centers for medicare & medicaid services (cms)regulatory
A federal agency that runs the United States' major public health insurance programs for older adults, people with disabilities, and low-income individuals. Investors watch its rules, reimbursement rates and coverage decisions because they directly affect the revenue and costs of healthcare providers, drug makers and medical device companies—like a referee whose calls change how the game is played and who scores.
risk-adjusted mortalitymedical
Risk-adjusted mortality is a clinical performance measure that compares the number of deaths a hospital or medical program actually experienced to the number expected after accounting for differences in patient risk (age, preexisting conditions, illness severity). It matters to investors because it signals care quality, operational effectiveness, and potential regulatory, legal or reimbursement exposure — like judging a school’s results after accounting for students’ starting skill levels.
44 hospitals ranked among America’s 250 Best Hospitals
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
HCA Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:HCA), one of the nation’s leading healthcare providers, today announced that three of its hospitals were named among America’s 50 Best Hospitals and 15 of its hospitals were named among America’s 100 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades. These are part of the 44 HCA Healthcare hospitals recognized on the Healthgrades America’s 250 Best Hospitals list for 2026. Inclusion on these lists recognizes superior performance in providing care for conditions and procedures across multiple specialty lines and areas.
Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina, HCA HealthONE Sky Ridge in Lone Tree, Colorado and HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in Miami, Florida are the hospitals named on the America’s 50 Best Hospitals list, putting them in the top 1% in the nation for consistent clinical excellence. This is Mission Hospital’s 11th consecutive year on the list.
“Delivering high-quality, patient-centered care is at the core of what we do,” said Dr. Randy Fagin, senior vice president and chief quality officer of HCA Healthcare. “This recognition is a reflection of the compassion, teamwork and dedication our caregivers bring to their patients every day.”
Determined exclusively by patient outcomes, the America’s 250 Best Hospital award celebrates the top 5% of hospitals in the country for clinical excellence. To be eligible, a hospital must have evaluations in at least 21 of the 31 Healthgrades procedures and conditions using independent, publicly available Medicare inpatient data from the Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) file from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). To determine this year’s list, Healthgrades then evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for more than 30 of the most common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide.
Hospitals that have been consistently recognized on the Healthgrades 250 Best Hospitals list are considered for the America’s 50 Best Hospitals and America’s 100 Best Hospitals lists. Evaluated on both their consecutive years on the list and their current year’s performance, these lists determine Healthgrades’ top 1% and 2% of hospitals respectively.
