Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

New research shows AI World Class technology organizations reduce IT process costs by 27%-35%, improve project ROI by 1.5X-2.5X and drive compounding enterprise performance improvement

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Hackett Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: HCKT), an AI enterprise transformation firm, today announced its AI World Class information technology research, introducing a new set of performance benchmarks that quantify how leading organizations use disciplined artificial intelligence (AI) investment to change the economics of enterprise performance.

How AI value compounds across the enterprise: AI World Class organizations fund AI investment by reducing technical debt, rationalizing applications and modernizing operating models. By reducing that burden, technology leaders create capacity to invest. That same discipline improves the economics of the technology function, reducing IT process costs by 27%-35%, lowering IT staffing levels by 34%-44% and improving project ROI by 1.5X-2.5X.5 The greatest returns extend beyond the technology function. Finance organizations redesign order-to-cash processes to reduce costs by 52%-59% while accelerating cash conversion. Procurement organizations generate up to 2.7X greater ROI and significantly greater sourcing impact. HR organizations reduce recruiting costs by 61% while increasing recruiter productivity by 119%. As these improvements reinforce one another across multiple business functions, the enterprise return on AI investment extends far beyond the direct savings realized within IT.

The research reveals that a 75% performance gap is emerging between organizations that redesign end-to-end processes around AI and those that simply automate existing processes. According to The Hackett Group’s analysis, AI World Class organizations achieve significant advantages by simplifying technology environments, reimagining work and directing AI investments to the highest-value opportunities across the enterprise.

“CIOs face a paradox: AI requires greater investment while the business expects lower costs with higher performance,” said Michael Fuller, principal, The Hackett Group®. “Leaders are creating capacity for AI by simplifying technology, reducing technical debt and redesigning operating models, then directing that capacity to the investments with the greatest return.”

The results are significant. AI World Class technology organizations reduce information technology (IT) process costs by 27%-35%, lower staffing levels by 34%-44% and improve project return on investment (ROI) by 1.5X-2.5X. Beyond the technology function, those improvements help drive enterprisewide gains in productivity, operating leverage, cash conversion and customer experience.

The findings also demonstrate how the benefits of disciplined AI investment compound across business functions. Benchmark modeling identified opportunities for organizations to achieve 52%-59% lower order-to-cash process costs, up to 2.7X greater procurement ROI, 53.5% fewer inventory days of supply, and 61% lower recruiting costs when AI investments are aligned to end-to-end business outcomes.

Rather than pursuing isolated use cases, AI World Class organizations start with the business outcome. They identify the enterprise priorities with the greatest potential impact, then manage AI as an enterprise investment portfolio, continuously identifying, prioritizing, and scaling initiatives that deliver measurable business outcomes. By directing investments to the highest-value opportunities, they maximize enterprise return and accelerate performance improvement.

“The CIO’s role is rapidly expanding from managing technology performance to enabling enterprise performance," said Kyle Robichaud, principal, The Hackett Group®. “CIOs must help determine where AI can create the greatest value and build capabilities to scale it securely and efficiently. Those that consistently identify and scale high-return AI investments will create a lasting competitive advantage.”

Spanning 16 end-to-end business processes, AI World Class benchmarks quantify where AI-enabled transformation can create the greatest value and establish future-state performance standards for organizations seeking to improve both technology and enterprise performance. The AI World Class benchmark methodology draws on more than three decades of benchmarking data, process intelligence and transformation experience with 98% of the Dow Jones Global Titans, 97% of the Dow Jones Industrials and 90% of the Fortune 100.

Key Terms

technical debt technical
Technical debt is the extra work and cost a company incurs when it chooses quick, imperfect software or system fixes instead of doing a more thorough job now. Like patching a leaky roof instead of replacing it, those shortcuts can slow product development, raise maintenance bills, increase outage and security risk, and reduce a company’s ability to grow—factors investors watch because they can lower profits and company value over time.
order-to-cash technical
Order-to-cash is the end-to-end business process that starts when a customer places an order and ends when the company receives and records payment. Think of it like ordering a meal: you place the order, the kitchen prepares it, you pay the bill, and the restaurant closes the sale—each step affects speed and satisfaction. Investors care because a smooth order-to-cash flow improves cash generation, reduces unpaid invoices and working capital needs, and signals operational reliability.
roi financial
Return on investment (ROI) measures how much money an investor makes or loses relative to the amount they put in, expressed as a percentage. It helps compare the efficiency of different investments—like checking which of several gardens produced the most fruit for the seeds planted—so investors can decide which opportunities deliver the best payoff for the risk and capital they commit.
