How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

News Explained

The dividend is a scheduled cash payment; the remaining buyback authority does not commit Hawthorn to further purchases.

In its third-quarter report, Hawthorn Bancshares said its board approved a $0.21-per-share cash dividend, payable January 1, 2027 to shareholders of record December 15, 2026, creating a scheduled cash distribution to common holders.

The company repurchased 12,000 common shares under its plan during the first nine months of 2026 for $0.4 million, while $10.0 million remained available at September 30, 2026; management controls the number, pricing and timing of purchases, so the remaining amount is authorization, not a stated commitment to buy.

Key Terms

fully taxable equivalent, non-gaap financial measure, common equity tier 1, non-accrual loans
4 terms
fully taxable equivalent financial
"Net interest margin, fully taxable equivalent ("FTE") improved in the third quarter 2026"
A fully taxable equivalent converts a tax-free yield into the pretax yield you would need from a taxable investment to get the same after-tax return, using an investor’s marginal tax rate. Think of it like inflating a discounted price to the full sticker price so you can compare items side‑by‑side; investors use it to fairly compare tax-exempt securities with taxable alternatives and choose the better after-tax income.
non-gaap financial measure financial
"Represents a non-GAAP financial measure."
A non-GAAP financial measure is a way companies present their financial results that excludes certain expenses or income to show how they believe their core business is performing. It matters because it can give a clearer picture of how the company is really doing, but it can also be used to make results look better than they actually are.
common equity tier 1 regulatory
"common equity tier 1 10.15%"
Common Equity Tier 1 is the highest-quality capital a bank holds—mainly common shares and retained profits—that acts as the primary cushion against losses. Investors use the CET1 level and ratio to judge a bank’s financial strength and regulatory standing: a bigger cushion means the bank is better able to absorb shocks, sustain payouts and borrow cheaply, much like an emergency fund for a household.
non-accrual loans financial
"increase in non-accrual loans within the commercial loan segment"
A non-accrual loan is a loan a lender has decided is unlikely to produce the scheduled interest payments, so the lender stops counting future interest as income and may record the loan at a reduced value. Think of it like renting out a house where the tenant has stopped paying: you stop counting future rent as earnings because it’s uncertain you’ll get it. For investors, a rise in non-accrual loans signals worsening credit quality, lower reported income and higher potential losses that can weaken a bank’s capital and share price.
