digital twins technical
Digital twins are virtual replicas of physical objects, systems, or processes that simulate their real-world counterparts in real time. They allow users to monitor, analyze, and predict how the actual entity will behave under different conditions. For investors, digital twins can provide valuable insights into performance and potential risks, helping to make better-informed decisions.
physical ai technical
Physical AI combines artificial intelligence with physical devices or environments, enabling machines to interact with and adapt to the real world in a human-like way. It matters to investors because it can lead to smarter robots, autonomous vehicles, or advanced sensors that improve efficiency and open new markets, potentially creating significant business opportunities and competitive advantages.
industrial ai technical
Industrial AI is the application of artificial intelligence to physical operations—factories, power systems, transportation and similar environments—using data from machines and sensors to find patterns, predict equipment problems and improve workflows. For investors, it matters because it can lower operating costs, boost productivity, reduce downtime and create new revenue streams, all of which can improve a business’s profitability and change its future investment needs.
iiot technical
A network of sensors, machines and controllers that collect and share operational data across factories, power plants, transport fleets and other industrial sites. Like a nervous system for heavy equipment, IIoT turns physical operations into continuous data streams that help companies spot problems sooner, cut downtime, improve efficiency and shift spending toward software and services—factors that can change profit margins, growth prospects and the value of industrial companies for investors.

Upcoming ISG Provider Lens® report will evaluate providers helping manufacturers modernize engineering and adopt more intelligent, adaptive operations

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Information Services Group (ISG) (Nasdaq: III), a global AI-centered technology research and advisory firm, has launched a research study examining service providers that support manufacturers as they navigate supply chain restructuring and operational complexity and meet growing demands for resilience and competitiveness.

The study results will be published in a series of comprehensive ISG Provider Lens® reports, called Manufacturing Industry Services and Solutions, scheduled to be released in November 2026. The reports will cover companies offering services focused on engineering, research and development, physical AI and smart/digital factories, supply chain and aftermarket strategies and technology transformation.

Enterprise buyers will be able to use the insights from the reports to evaluate their current vendor relationships, identify potential new engagements and compare available offerings. ISG advisors will use the research to guide clients through increasingly complex transformation and platform investment decisions.

Manufacturing is undergoing significant changes caused by factors including geopolitical uncertainty, changing trade dynamics and supply chain realignment. Manufacturers are investing in advanced engineering, software-defined products, digital twins and industrial AI to become more innovative and competitive. Many are making their production environments more adaptive through automation, physical AI, computer vision and edge computing while also building toward operational resilience and long-term growth. These developments are influencing product development, production methods and enterprise-wide transformation.

“Manufacturers increasingly want partners that can connect engineering innovation with operational execution,” said Iain Fisher, director, ISG. “Service providers that bring together industry expertise, intelligent technologies and transformation capabilities help enterprises respond to changing market conditions and evolving business priorities.”

ISG has distributed surveys to more than 130 manufacturing industry service and solution providers. Working in collaboration with ISG’s global advisors, the research team will produce four quadrants representing services and solutions that manufacturing enterprises are buying, based on ISG’s experience working with its clients. The four quadrants are:

  • Engineering Research and Development (ER&D) Services, evaluating providers that help manufacturers design, develop, test and industrialize products. These providers use engineering expertise, digital twins and AI-assisted capabilities to accelerate innovation.
  • Physical AI and Smart/Digital Factory Services, assessing providers that enable intelligent manufacturing through automation, connected operations and advanced production technologies. These providers apply industrial AI, robotics and IIoT to improve factory performance and resilience.
  • Supply Chain and Aftermarket Services, covering providers that support procurement, logistics, fulfillment and aftermarket operations. They help manufacturers improve efficiency, optimize decision-making and enhance customer experiences through digital technologies and automation.
  • Technology, Transformation and Consulting Services, evaluating providers that help manufacturers modernize technology environments and execute business transformation initiatives. These providers combine consulting, cloud, data, cybersecurity and AI capabilities to improve operations.

Geographically focused reports from the study will cover the global manufacturing services and solutions market and examine products and services available in Europe and North America. ISG analysts Srinivasan P N (Europe) and Sneha Jeyanth (North America) will serve as authors of the reports.

A list of identified providers and vendors and further details on the study are available in this digital brochure. Companies not listed as manufacturing services and solutions providers can contact ISG and ask to be included in the study.

All 2026 ISG Provider Lens evaluations feature expanded customer experience (CX) data capturing real-world enterprise feedback on specific provider services and solutions, based on ISG’s continuous CX research.
