The U.S. Army Strategic Capital Initiatives project will employ natural gas and IMSR Plant advanced nuclear generation

Announcement Follows Terrestrial Energy and Ameresco’s June 2025 MOU to collaborate on the identification of sites and on development of power projects across the United States

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Terrestrial Energy Inc. (Nasdaq: IMSR) (“Terrestrial Energy” or the “Company”), a leader in Generation IV molten salt nuclear plants supplying electricity and high-temperature industrial heat, today announced its support and role as supplier of advanced nuclear plant technology for Ameresco Inc.’s power plant project at the U.S. Army’s Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) in Maryland. This follows a competitive request for proposals and selection process by the Army as part of its Strategic Capital Initiatives and Ameresco’s recent successful selection.

Ameresco’s APG power project is planned to provide commercial power generation capacity to the regional electricity market and enhance APG’s electric power resiliency. The project is a phased development of natural gas and advanced nuclear commercial power generation. Terrestrial Energy is supporting Ameresco as the supplier of advanced nuclear generation technology with its Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) Plant design, an advanced reactor that captures the exceptional inherent safety features of a molten salt reactor to supply resilient, firm, clean power.

“Terrestrial Energy is excited to be partnering with Ameresco to support the U.S. Army’s Strategic Capital Initiatives to build advanced energy resilience at one of the country’s most critical research and testing installations. This project is expected to deliver resilient power supply and support the nation’s energy security policy objectives,” said Simon Irish, CEO of Terrestrial Energy. “Ameresco is at the forefront of mission-critical projects, and we are honored to be partnering with them.”

This U.S. Army Strategic Capital Initiatives development follows the June 2025 announcement by Terrestrial Energy and Ameresco of a collaboration to identify sites and develop IMSR Plant projects across the United States.

“We are excited to advance this critical project at Aberdeen Proving Ground and support the U.S. Army’s efforts to strengthen long-term energy resilience and security,” said Nicole Bulgarino, co-president of Ameresco. “Ameresco is pleased to partner with Terrestrial Energy as we work together to bring forward innovative, reliable power solutions that can help meet the evolving energy needs of the U.S. Army.”

Terrestrial Energy’s IMSR Plant is designed to supply clean firm, low-cost electricity and high-quality industrial heat with high capital efficiency. It pairs a triple operating advantage - high temperature, low pressure and inherent safety – with a modular architecture built for fast on-site construction. At 390 MWe, the IMSR Plant is sized to serve multiple energy-intensive industrial applications requiring clean firm power at large scale, and its output can be customized to each site’s energy demand.

The IMSR Plant is differentiated in the Generation IV advanced reactor sector with its use of standard enrichment - standard-assay low-enriched uranium (SALEU, less than 5% U-235) leveraging long-established commercial nuclear fuel supply chains.

About Terrestrial Energy

Terrestrial Energy is a developer of Generation IV nuclear plants powered by its Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) technology, delivering innovation in efficiency, cost, versatility and functionality. The IMSR Plant is small, modular and designed to supply low-cost, reliable, high-temperature heat and electricity for industrial applications, including data centers and petrochemical synthesis. By extending nuclear energy beyond power markets, IMSR supports clean firm heat and power, self-reliance, grid reliability and economic growth. Using proven molten salt technology and inexpensive standard-assay low-enriched uranium fuel, Terrestrial Energy is working with regulators, suppliers and partners to commission the first IMSR plants across multiple sites in the U.S. in the early 2030s. Key Terms

molten salt reactor technical
A molten salt reactor is a type of nuclear power device that uses molten (liquid) salt to carry heat and, in many designs, holds the nuclear fuel dissolved in that salt; think of it as a high‑temperature kettle where the hot liquid both contains and moves the energy. It matters to investors because it promises potentially lower cost, improved safety and higher efficiency than traditional reactors, creating new market and infrastructure opportunities — but it also brings long development timelines and regulatory and technical risks.
generation iv technical
Generation IV refers to a class of advanced nuclear reactor designs that aim to be safer, more efficient, and produce less long-lived waste than older reactors, much like a next-generation car that uses fuel more efficiently and has stronger safety features. Investors care because these technologies can reshape energy markets, require large upfront capital and regulatory approval, and offer long-term revenue and risk profiles different from traditional power projects.
low-enriched uranium technical
Low-enriched uranium is uranium that has been processed so the amount of the fissionable isotope U-235 is raised but kept below 20 percent, making it suitable for use as fuel in most commercial nuclear reactors while reducing its usefulness for weapons. Investors care because it is the primary commodity that powers nuclear plants, so its availability, production costs, regulatory controls and geopolitical supply risks directly affect energy companies, utility revenues and firms involved in mining and enrichment — similar to how gasoline supply and price influence transportation businesses.
