Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

Key Terms

non-gaap, gaap, impairment charge, stock dividend
4 terms
non-gaap financial
"Net sales on a foreign currency adjusted basis (non-GAAP) increased 16.3 percent"
Non-GAAP refers to financial measures that companies use to show their earnings or performance without including certain expenses or income that are often added back to give a different picture. It matters because it can make a company's results look better or more favorable, but it may also hide important costs, so investors need to look at both GAAP (official rules) and non-GAAP numbers to get a full understanding.
View in glossary
gaap financial
"Reconciliation of GAAP and Non-GAAP Information"
GAAP, or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, are a set of standardized rules and guidelines that companies follow when preparing their financial statements. They ensure consistency, transparency, and comparability across different companies, making it easier for investors to understand and compare financial information accurately. This helps investors make informed decisions based on trustworthy and uniform financial reports.
View in glossary
impairment charge financial
"included a property and equipment impairment charge of $19.9 million"
An impairment charge is an accounting write-down taken when a company determines an asset—like a building, patent, or investment—is worth less than its recorded value, similar to lowering the price tag on a used car when damage reduces its resale value. It matters to investors because it reduces reported profits and the company’s asset base, can signal business challenges or one-time losses, and may affect future earnings, creditworthiness, and valuation.
stock dividend financial
"effected in the form of a 100 percent stock dividend"
A stock dividend is when a company gives its existing shareholders extra shares instead of cash. It’s like receiving more pieces of the same pie rather than a bigger piece of money, which can increase the number of shares you own but usually doesn’t change the total value of your investment right away. Investors care about it because it can signal the company's growth and affect the stock’s price.

Net changes in foreign currency exchange rates had a favorable impact on net sales for the Strategic Brands segment of approximately $0.6 million for the 2026 third quarter. Gross profit as a percentage of net sales for the 2026 third quarter was 54.7 percent, compared with 55.7 percent in the 2025 third quarter. The decrease in gross profit as a percentage of net sales for the 2026 third quarter was primarily the result of increased aluminum can costs, geographical sales mix and increased freight-in costs, partially offset by pricing actions. Adjusted gross profit (non-GAAP) as a percentage of net sales, excluding the Alcohol Brands segment, for the 2026 third quarter was 54.9 percent, compared with 56.2 percent in the 2025 third quarter.

Distribution expenses for the 2026 third quarter were $116.3 million, or 4.5 percent of net sales, compared with $82.6 million, or 3.8 percent of net sales, in the 2025 third quarter. The increase in distribution expenses for the 2026 third quarter was primarily due to increased freight and fuel expenses.

Selling expenses for the 2026 third quarter were $260.1 million, or 10.1 percent of net sales, compared with $214.6 million, or 9.8 percent of net sales, in the 2025 third quarter. The increase in selling expenses for the 2026 third quarter was primarily due to increased social, digital, media and other marketing expenses, including sponsorships and endorsements, in order to reach a broader consumer audience and increase household penetration.

General and administrative expenses for the 2026 third quarter were $305.7 million, or 11.9 percent of net sales, compared with $251.9 million, or 11.5 percent of net sales, for the 2025 third quarter. Stock-based compensation was $30.4 million for the 2026 third quarter, compared with $32.8 million in the 2025 third quarter. Adjusted general and administrative expenses (non-GAAP) as a percentage of net sales, less the Alcohol Brands segment, were 10.8 percent and 10.7 percent for the 2026 and 2025 third quarters, respectively.

Operating expenses for the 2026 third quarter were $682.0 million, compared with $549.1 million in the 2025 third quarter. The effective tax rate for the 2026 third quarter was 24.6 percent, compared with 23.9 percent in the 2025 third quarter. The increase in the effective tax rate was primarily due to a lower stock-based compensation deduction and an increase in income from higher income tax jurisdictions, partially offset by a lower valuation allowance on foreign tax credit carryforwards.

Net income for the 2026 third quarter increased 8.4 percent to $568.4 million, from $524.5 million in the 2025 third quarter. Adjusted net income (non-GAAP) for the 2026 third quarter increased 9.0 percent to $591.1 million, from $542.1 million in the 2025 third quarter. “Our new product launches this quarter, including additions to the Monster Energy®, Java Monster®, Mother® and FLRTTM product lines, reflect our ongoing commitment to innovation alongside the continued growth of our core offerings,” Mr. Schlosberg added.
