Short interest refers to the total number of shares sold short by all broker/dealers regardless of their exchange affiliations.

Short interest can affect stock prices because it represents the number of investors betting against a stock. If short interest increases, it may indicate negative sentiment and potentially lead to a decrease in stock price.
