A global custody service is when a bank or financial firm holds and manages an investor’s stocks, bonds and other securities across many countries, acting like a secure international safety-deposit box and local helper. It handles record-keeping, the mechanics of buying and selling in different markets, collecting dividends or interest, and consolidated reporting—services that reduce paperwork, lower operational risk and make it easier for investors to own assets abroad.
securities lendingfinancial
Securities lending is when an owner of stocks or bonds temporarily loans them to another party, usually so the borrower can sell them short or meet settlement needs; the lender receives a fee and typically some form of security in return. Investors should care because lending can generate extra income on holdings and affects market liquidity and short-selling activity, much like renting out a spare room brings income while someone else uses the space.
A annual comprehensive financial report (ACFR) is a detailed, audited package of a company’s yearly financial statements, explanations of results, cash flow information, and notes that disclose accounting choices and risks. Think of it as a full financial health check that shows where money came from, how it was spent, and what uncertain factors could affect the business. Investors use it to verify performance, spot trends, compare across companies, and judge how safely their capital is being managed.
GASBregulatory
GASB (Governmental Accounting Standards Board) is the independent body that creates the accounting rules U.S. state and local governments must follow when preparing financial reports. Think of it as the rulebook that makes government financial statements consistent and easier to compare, which matters to investors because clearer, standardized reports help assess credit risk, funding obligations (like pensions) and the true financial health of public borrowers such as municipalities and school districts.
