Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

ONE Gas (NYSE: OGS) raised its 2026 adjusted earnings guidance and reported higher third-quarter profit than a year earlier. The company now expects adjusted diluted earnings of approximately $4.95–$5.01 per share, versus $4.89–$4.95 previously, and adjusted net income of $313–$317 million, versus $310–$314 million.

Third-quarter adjusted net income rose to $33.5 million, or $0.53 per diluted share, from $28.6 million, or $0.47. GAAP net income was $31.2 million, or $0.49 per diluted share, versus $26.5 million, or $0.44. Nine-month adjusted net income increased to $218.9 million from $181.3 million. New rates supported operating income, while lower sales volumes and higher employee costs weighed on nine-month results.

ONE Gas issued $375 million of 5.45% senior notes due September 2036 and declared a $0.68 quarterly dividend. It still expects approximately $800 million in 2026 capital investments.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

Key Terms

non-gaap financial measures, senior notes, commercial paper, regulatory liability
4 terms
non-gaap financial measures financial
"adjusted net income and adjusted net income per share, which are non-GAAP financial measures"
Non-GAAP financial measures are numbers companies use to show their financial performance that exclude certain expenses or income. They help investors see how the company might perform without one-time costs or other unusual items, giving a different perspective from official reports. However, since they can be adjusted, they don’t always tell the full story and should be looked at alongside standard financial figures.
senior notes financial
"issued $375 million of 5.45 percent 10-year senior notes"
Senior notes are a type of loan that a company borrows from investors, promising to pay it back with interest. They are called "senior" because in case the company faces financial trouble, these lenders are paid back before others. This makes senior notes safer for investors compared to other types of loans or bonds.
commercial paper financial
"lower weighted-average interest rate on commercial paper borrowings"
Short-term IOUs issued by companies to raise cash quickly, sold to investors for a fixed, brief period (usually up to a few months) and repaid with interest at maturity. Think of it as a business borrowing from the public without putting up collateral, like a friend asking to borrow money for a few weeks with a promise to pay back a bit more. Investors watch commercial paper to gauge a company’s short-term funding health and credit risk; difficulty issuing it or rising yields can signal liquidity stress or higher perceived risk.
regulatory liability financial
"amortization of the regulatory liability associated with excess deferred income taxes"
An obligation a company has because of laws, rules or formal actions by government agencies or industry regulators, including assessed fines, required remediation costs, orders to change operations, or other enforceable penalties. It covers amounts that are legally due or expected to be paid or performed as a direct consequence of regulatory requirements or enforcement (for example corrective work, monetary penalties, or suspension of a license); if the obligation is only possible or uncertain it may be treated as a contingent regulatory liability until it becomes probable and reasonably estimable. Regulatory liability is distinct from contractual or commercial obligations because it arises from statutory or administrative authority rather than private agreements.

Declares Fourth Quarter Dividend

Analyst call and webcast scheduled tomorrow, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. EST

TULSA, Okla., Nov. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- ONE Gas, Inc. (NYSE: OGS) today announced its third quarter financial results, raised its 2026 adjusted financial guidance and declared its quarterly dividend.

"In the third quarter, we again delivered positive results and, for the second time this year, raise our 2026 financial outlook," said Robert S. McAnnally, chief executive officer. "Our 2026 financing plan is complete, and we see continued opportunity ahead as diverse large-load demand develops across our footprint. Importantly, we expect our average 2026 customer bills to remain flat to last year."

FINANCIAL RESULTS & HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Company raised its 2026 adjusted earnings per diluted share guidance to a range of $4.95 to $5.01, from a previous range of $4.89 to $4.95;
  • Third quarter 2026 adjusted net income was $33.5 million, or $0.53 per diluted share, compared with $28.6 million, or $0.47 per diluted share, in the same period last year;
  • Year-to-date 2026 adjusted net income was $218.9 million, or $3.47 per diluted share, compared with $181.3 million, or $3.00 per diluted share, in 2025;
  • Third quarter 2026 net income was $31.2 million, or $0.49 per diluted share, compared with $26.5 million, or $0.44 per diluted share, in the same period last year;
  • Year-to-date 2026 net income was $206.7 million, or $3.27 per diluted share, compared with $177.9 million, or $2.94 per diluted share, in 2025;
  • In Aug. 2026, the Company issued $375 million of 5.45 percent 10-year senior notes due Sept. 2036; and
  • The board of directors declared a quarterly dividend of $0.68 per share ($2.72 annualized), payable on Dec. 3, 2026, to shareholders of record at the close of business on Nov. 16, 2026.

THIRD QUARTER 2026 FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE

ONE Gas reported operating income of $77.4 million in the third quarter, compared with $65.4 million in the third quarter 2025, which primarily reflects:

  • an increase of $13.5 million in revenue from new rates; and
  • an increase of $3.3 million in residential sales due primarily to net customer growth in Oklahoma and Texas.

These increases were partially offset by:

  • an increase of $1.0 million in employee-related cost; and
  • an increase of $2.8 million in depreciation and amortization expense.

Excluding interest related to KGSS-I securitized bonds, net interest expense increased $1.6 million for the three months ending September 30, 2026. The increase in interest expense is due primarily to interest on the $250 million 13-month unsecured term loan that matured in September 2026 and the issuance of $375 million 5.45 percent senior notes due September 2036.

Income tax expense includes a credit for amortization of the regulatory liability associated with excess deferred income taxes (EDIT) of $2.2 million and $1.7 million for the three months ended September 30, 2026, and 2025, respectively.

Capital expenditures and asset removal costs were $229.0 million for the third quarter 2026 compared with $207.6 million in the same period last year, primarily representing expenditures for system integrity and extension of service to new areas.

YEAR-TO-DATE 2026 FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE

Operating income for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, was $349.6 million, compared with $317.7 million in 2025, which primarily reflects:

  • an increase of $57.2 million from new rates;
  • an increase of $6.5 million in residential sales due primarily to net customer growth in Oklahoma and Texas; and
  • an increase of $2.0 million from released transportation capacity to other shippers in Kansas.

These increases were partially offset by:

  • a decrease of $11.3 million in revenue due to lower sales and transport volumes, net of the impact of weather normalization mechanisms;
  • an increase of $13.4 million in employee-related costs;
  • an increase of $3.3 million in outside services;
  • an increase of $2.3 million in fleet expense; and
  • an increase of $3.3 million in bad debt expense.

Weather was 23 percent warmer than normal and 25 percent warmer than the prior year for the nine months ended September 30, 2026. The impact on operating income was mitigated by weather normalization mechanisms.

Excluding interest related to KGSS-I securitized bonds, net interest expense decreased $5.1 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2026. The decrease in interest expense is due primarily to lower weighted-average interest rate on commercial paper borrowings and the implementation of Texas House Bill 4384.

Income tax expense includes a credit for amortization of the regulatory liability associated with EDIT of $15.0 million and $11.9 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, and 2025, respectively.

Capital expenditures and asset removal costs were $586.9 million for the nine-month 2026 period compared with $575.4 million in the same period last year, primarily representing expenditures for system integrity and extension of service to new areas.

REGULATORY ACTIVITIES UPDATE

In July 2026, Kansas Gas Service submitted an application to the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) requesting an increase of approximately $14.3 million related to its Gas System Reliability Surcharge to be effective October 2026. The filing included expanded infrastructure investments as defined by Kansas House Bill 2435. On September 22, 2026, the KCC approved the application, and the new rates became effective in October 2026.

In March 2026, Texas Gas Service made a Gas Reliability Infrastructure Program filing for all customers requesting a $36.9 million revenue increase to be effective in July 2026. In June 2026, the Texas Railroad Commission approved an increase of $36.9 million, and new rates became effective in July 2026.

At the hearing on June 11, 2026, the administrative law judge recommended approval of the application as filed. Interim rates subject to refund were implemented on June 26, 2026, in compliance with the PBRC tariff. The OCC issued an order approving the application on October 14, 2026. That order has been since appealed to the Oklahoma Supreme Court.

2026 FINANCIAL GUIDANCE

Based on strong operational performance, the Company raised its 2026 adjusted earnings expectations, with net income expected to be in the range of $313 million to $317 million, compared with its previously announced range of $310 million to $314 million. Adjusted earnings per diluted share are expected to be approximately $4.95 to $5.01, compared with the previously announced range of $4.89 to $4.95. The midpoint of 2026 adjusted earnings per diluted share guidance increased to $4.98, up from the previous guidance midpoint of $4.92.

NON-GAAP DISCLOSURE STATEMENT

This news release includes financial results and guidance for ONE Gas with respect to adjusted net income and adjusted net income per share, which are non-GAAP financial measures as defined by the Securities and Exchange Commission. Adjusted net income and adjusted net income per share are calculated as GAAP net income plus the deferral of an equity portion of a carrying cost attributable to shareholders' investment capitalized for regulatory purposes but not for financial reporting purposes. These carrying costs relate to property, plant and equipment that has been placed in service, but not yet reflected in rates. Adjusted net income and adjusted net income per share should not be considered in isolation or as a substitute for GAAP net income or GAAP earnings per share.

Management believes these non‑GAAP measures provide useful information because they offer a more complete view of our overall regulatory economics, reflect the period-specific effects of certain regulatory mechanisms designed to mitigate regulatory lag associated with property, plant and equipment placed in service prior to regulatory action, and reflect the impact of regulatory timing differences that arise under the Company's rate-setting framework. These adjustments, net of applicable tax effects, are expected to recur as a result of the Company's regulatory framework and are a consistent part of our earnings profile. A reconciliation of the Company's GAAP net income and GAAP earnings per share to adjusted net income and adjusted net income per share is provided in the Appendix.
