Key Terms

lidar technical
Lidar, which stands for Light Detection and Ranging, is a technology that uses laser beams to create detailed, three-dimensional maps of the environment. It works like a sophisticated eye that measures distances by bouncing light off objects, helping machines see and understand their surroundings. For investors, lidar is important because it enables advancements in autonomous vehicles, robotics, and mapping, which can drive innovation and growth in related industries.
multimodal actuation technical
Multimodal actuation is the use of two or more different ways to make a device move or change shape — for example combining electric motors, air pressure, heat, or magnetic fields in a single product. Like a hybrid car that can switch between gasoline and electric power to suit conditions, multimodal systems can perform more tasks, adapt to different environments, and offer backup options. For investors, that versatility can mean broader markets, higher development and certification costs, and potential advantages in reliability and product differentiation.
iot technical
The Internet of Things (IoT) describes a network of everyday devices—such as appliances, vehicles, and equipment—that are connected to the internet and can share data automatically. For investors, IoT represents a growing trend that can drive efficiency and innovation across many industries, potentially creating new opportunities for growth and value. Its expansion influences how companies operate and compete in a digitally connected world.
advanced traffic management system technical
An advanced traffic management system is a network of sensors, cameras, traffic lights and software that monitors and controls vehicle flow on roads in real time, like an air-traffic controller or orchestra conductor for city streets. Investors care because it can reduce congestion and accidents, lower operating costs, and create steady revenue or service contracts for technology and infrastructure providers, while boosting economic productivity in areas that adopt it.
atms technical
ATMs are “at‑the‑market” equity programs that let a company sell new shares directly into the open market over time at prevailing prices through a broker. For investors, ATMs matter because they offer companies a flexible way to raise cash without a large, one‑time offering, but they also dilute existing shareholders gradually — like adding more slices to a pie while the pie size may or may not grow.
digital traffic twin technical
A digital traffic twin is a virtual, real-time model of a road network that mirrors how vehicles, pedestrians and signals move and interact, like a flight simulator for a city's traffic. It lets planners test changes, predict congestion and optimize routes without disrupting the real world. For investors, it signals opportunities for companies that sell software, sensors or services that reduce congestion, cut operating costs, unlock new data-driven services and scale recurring revenue.
roadside units technical
Roadside units are fixed communication devices mounted on roadsides, traffic lights or poles that send and receive wireless messages with nearby vehicles and central traffic systems. They matter to investors because they form the backbone of vehicle-to-infrastructure networks that enable safer driving, traffic management, tolling and data services; demand for these units signals growth opportunities for firms supplying hardware, software and connectivity in smart-transport and autonomous-vehicle markets.
its technical
Its is the possessive form of the pronoun “it,” used to show that something belongs to or is associated with a thing, organization, product, contract, or situation. For investors, precise use of its matters because it identifies who or what holds assets, obligations, rights or responsibilities—like a label on a package—so unclear or incorrect wording can change legal interpretation, allocation of risk, or how performance and ownership are understood.

Ouster BlueCity lidar traffic management solution installed at over 40 locations across highways surrounding MetLife Stadium

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Ouster, Inc. (Nasdaq: OUST) (“Ouster” or the “Company”), a leader in sensing and perception for Physical AI, announced today the completed deployment of Ouster BlueCity at over 40 locations across highways surrounding MetLife Stadium in the lead up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The installations follow a 2025 New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) contract awarded to Ouster and its distribution partner, Signal Control Products, to deploy Ouster BlueCity to improve congestion management and city planning. Ouster BlueCity is a complete traffic management solution combining 3D lidar with proprietary AI detection for multimodal actuation, alerts, and analytics. The solution will be used by NJDOT to provide a combination of high-fidelity traffic monitoring and real-time safety alerts in preparation for the massive influx of game-day visitors.

"This is the largest ITS project NJDOT has ever done, and they did it in record time," said Laura Demeo Chace, CEO of ITS America. "We visited New Jersey to see the cutting-edge technologies being deployed to provide one million World Cup fans a safer and smoother experience. With the integration of multiple technologies – from lidar sensors to camera-based video analytics to roadside units, all into a statewide Advanced Traffic Management System – this area is now packed with transportation tech to make the mobility of both visitors and NJ residents safer and more efficient."

NJDOT has implemented a digital traffic twin for the urban highways and freeways surrounding the MetLife Stadium complex, integrating diverse data streams from lidar and IoT technologies. As such, Ouster BlueCity is integrated into the statewide Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) for enhanced mobility and safety. The project creates a connected corridor providing NJDOT operators with real-time views of traffic conditions and allowing for more efficient management of bottlenecks and safety events. The deployment benefits extend beyond the 2026 FIFA World Cup, establishing a permanent ITS system designed to manage real-time traffic, reduce congestion, and heighten safety.

"NJDOT is setting a new standard for how states can leverage technology to handle the world's largest sporting events," said Dr. Asad Lesani, VP, Global ITS at Ouster. "By integrating Ouster BlueCity into its existing highway traffic infrastructure, New Jersey is ensuring that its roadways are not only ready for the FIFA World Cup, but are also more resilient and safer for its residents long after the final whistle."
