Key Terms

functional biomaterials, piezoelectric technologies, regenerative medicine, trade secrets
4 terms
functional biomaterials technical
"PBM, a developer of advanced functional biomaterials and piezoelectric technologies."
Functional biomaterials are engineered substances designed to interact with living tissue to perform a specific job—such as delivering drugs, supporting regrowth of tissue, sealing wounds, or sensing biological signals. Think of them as tailored building materials or smart glue for the body that combine physical form and biological activity. For investors, they matter because successful biomaterials can become platform technologies with product sales, intellectual property, and regulatory pathways that drive long-term revenue but also carry development and clinical risk.
piezoelectric technologies technical
"PBM, a developer of advanced functional biomaterials and piezoelectric technologies."
Piezoelectric technologies use materials that generate an electric signal when squeezed or bent and, conversely, move or vibrate when an electric signal is applied. Think of them as tiny crystals that turn motion into electricity and electricity into motion; investors care because they enable compact sensors, precision medical devices, industrial actuators and energy-harvesting products, creating scalable revenue streams and potential competitive advantage in hardware markets.
regenerative medicine medical
"focused on the development, commercialization, licensing, and management of next-generation biomaterials, regenerative medicine technologies, and related intellectual property platforms."
A field of medical treatments that aims to repair, replace or regenerate damaged tissues and organs using approaches such as cell or gene therapies, engineered tissues, and biologically active materials. It matters to investors because successful regenerative therapies can create entirely new, high-value markets and replace chronic treatments, offering large potential returns but also long development timelines, heavy regulation and high technical risk—like betting on a promising new technology that could either revolutionize care or fail in trials.
trade secrets regulatory
"including proprietary know-how, licensed intellectual property rights, patents, patent applications, trade secrets, biomaterials, formulations..."
Confidential knowledge or information a company keeps hidden—such as formulas, manufacturing methods, customer lists, pricing strategies, or internal processes—that gives it a competitive edge and is protected through secrecy rather than patents. Investors care because trade secrets can sustain profits and market position like a chef’s secret recipe or a sports team’s playbook; if exposed or lost, they can weaken future revenue, increase legal risk, and reduce company value.
