Key Terms

safe agreement, animal-component-free (acf) media, aquatic cell biology, bioprocess engineering
4 terms
safe agreement financial
"through a simple agreement for future equity (“SAFE Agreement”)"
A SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity) is a contract investors use to provide capital to a private company now in exchange for the right to receive shares later, typically when the company raises a priced round or is sold. Think of it like a voucher that converts into stock at a future financing event according to pre-set terms (such as a valuation cap or discount). It matters to investors because SAFEs determine how much ownership and dilution early backers will receive once the company’s equity is formally issued, affecting potential returns and the company’s capitalization structure.
animal-component-free (acf) media technical
"specializing in aquatic cell biology and animal-component-free (ACF) media development"
Cell culture media labeled animal-component-free (ACF) are nutrient solutions formulated without any materials derived from animals, such as serum, gelatin, or animal-derived growth factors. Like a recipe that avoids any animal ingredients, ACF media are used to grow cells with fewer risks of animal-borne contaminants and more consistent composition, which matters to investors because it affects manufacturing scale, regulatory acceptance, product reproducibility, and supply-chain reliability in biotech and pharmaceutical production.
aquatic cell biology technical
"specializing in aquatic cell biology and animal-component-free (ACF) media development"
Study of the structure, function and behavior of cells that live in water environments—from single-celled microbes to the cells of fish, shellfish, algae and aquatic plants. It looks at how those cells grow, respond to stress, exchange nutrients and interact with pollutants or pathogens, like examining the bricks and wiring of buildings that live underwater. For investors, it matters because findings can drive developments in aquaculture, environmental monitoring, marine biotechnology, drug discovery, and sustainable products tied to water-based organisms.
bioprocess engineering technical
"integrating biology, media, bioprocess engineering and advanced manufacturing"
The engineering discipline that designs, optimizes, and scales the systems used to make biological products—like vaccines, enzymes, or cell therapies—using living cells, microbes, or biological molecules. Think of it as turning a recipe developed in a lab into a reliable factory process, controlling conditions, equipment, and quality so production runs safely, efficiently, and consistently. It matters to investors because bioprocess choices affect manufacturing costs, time to market, regulatory approval, and product supply reliability.
