Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

United States Lime & Minerals (NASDAQ: USLM) reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $106.2 million, with higher sales but lower earnings. Revenue rose 4.1% year over year, while net income fell 1.9% to $38.0 million and diluted earnings per share declined to $1.32 from $1.35. Gross profit decreased 2.7% to $50.8 million, reflecting higher transportation and fuel costs and Texas kiln integration inefficiencies.

For the first nine months, revenue increased 2.9% to $293.1 million; net income decreased 0.6% to $103.1 million. Steel demand supported volumes, partly offset by weaker construction demand in the quarter and roof shingle demand over nine months. The company expects final Texas kiln commissioning in the fourth quarter. A regular $0.06-per-share dividend is payable December 11, 2026, to holders of record November 20, 2026.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

Key Terms

sg&a, forward-looking statements, quicklime
3 terms
sg&a financial
"Selling, general and administrative (“SG&A”) expenses"
SG&A stands for Selling, General, and Administrative expenses. It includes the costs a company spends on selling products, running the business day-to-day, and managing staff, like advertising, rent, and salaries. These expenses matter because they affect how much profit a company can make from its sales.
forward-looking statements regulatory
"are forward-looking statements as defined in the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995"
Forward-looking statements are predictions or plans that companies share about what they expect to happen in the future, like estimating sales or profits. They matter because they help investors understand a company's outlook, but since they are based on guesses and assumptions, they can sometimes be wrong.
quicklime technical
"began intermittently producing quicklime in the third quarter"
Quicklime is the common name for calcium oxide (CaO), a white, caustic solid made by heating limestone to drive off carbon dioxide. It reacts strongly with water to form slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) and releases heat in that process, and is used industrially for things like steelmaking, soil stabilization, water and flue‑gas treatment, and chemical manufacture. Because it is highly alkaline and generates heat when wet, it must be handled and stored to avoid chemical burns, moisture damage, and unwanted reactions; it is distinct from slaked lime, which is the hydrated form.

DALLAS, Oct. 30, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- United States Lime & Minerals, Inc. (NASDAQ: USLM) today reported third quarter 2026 results: The Company’s revenues in the third quarter 2026 were $106.2 million, compared to $102.0 million in the third quarter 2025, an increase of $4.2 million, or 4.1%. For the first nine months 2026, the Company’s revenues were $293.1 million, compared to $284.8 million in the first nine months 2025, an increase of $8.4 million, or 2.9%. The increase in revenues in the third quarter 2026, compared to the third quarter 2025, resulted primarily from modest increases in both average sales prices and sales volumes. Increased sales volumes were principally due to increased demand from the Company’s steel customers, partially offset by reduced demand from the Company’s construction customers. The increase in revenues in the first nine months 2026, compared to the first nine months 2025, resulted primarily from modest increases in both average sales prices and sales volumes. Increased sales volumes were principally due to increased demand from the Company’s steel customers, partially offset by reduced demand from the Company’s roof shingle customers.

The Company’s gross profit was $50.8 million in the third quarter 2026, compared to $52.2 million in the third quarter 2025, a decrease of $1.4 million, or 2.7%. The Company’s gross profit was $139.2 million in the first nine months 2026, compared to $140.2 million in the first nine months 2025, a decrease of $1.0 million, or 0.7%. The decreases in gross profit in the third quarter and first nine months 2026, compared to the comparable 2025 periods, resulted primarily from higher transportation and fuel costs, driven principally by higher diesel costs, and production inefficiencies experienced during the integration of our new Texas kiln into our existing plant operations.

Selling, general and administrative (“SG&A”) expenses were $6.1 million in the third quarter 2026, compared to $5.9 million in the third quarter 2025, an increase of $0.1 million, or 2.3%. SG&A expenses were $18.1 million in the first nine months 2026, compared to $18.4 million in the first nine months 2025, a decrease of $0.3 million, or 1.5%.

Other (income) expense, net was $3.8 million and $10.4 million income in the third quarter and first nine months 2026, compared to $3.4 million and $9.6 million income in the third quarter and first nine months 2025, increases of $0.4 million and $0.8 million, respectively. The increases in other (income) expense, net for the third quarter and first nine months 2026, compared to the comparable 2025 periods, were primarily due to interest earned on higher average balances of cash and cash equivalents.

The Company reported net income of $38.0 million ($1.32 per share diluted) and $103.1 million ($3.58 per share diluted) in the third quarter and first nine months 2026, compared to $38.8 million ($1.35 per share diluted) and $103.7 million ($3.61 per share diluted) in the third quarter and first nine months 2025, decreases of $0.7 million, or 1.9%, and $0.6 million, or 0.6%, respectively.

“We saw modest increases in both volumes and sales prices for our lime and limestone products in the third quarter 2026, while our expenses reflected the impact of the sharp rise in diesel prices,” said Timothy W. Byrne, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Although we remain optimistic regarding overall construction demand in the future, certain large construction projects have recently experienced delays for various reasons, including securing permits, and we are monitoring indications that Texas’ residential construction is beginning to slow down. The new kiln at our Texas facility began intermittently producing quicklime in the third quarter, and we expect to have final commissioning completed in the fourth quarter. To that end, our costs in Texas have been impacted by production inefficiencies as we continue to integrate the new kiln into our existing plant operations,” Mr. Byrne added.
