Sentiment and the balance of points

Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.

Vishay Precision Group (NYSE: VPG) reported third-quarter adjusted revenue of $87.4 million, with orders exceeding sales across all three segments. Adjusted revenue rose 9.6% year over year and 4.1% sequentially. GAAP revenue was $85.1 million after $2.3 million of tariff refunds passed through to customers, without affecting gross profit.

Orders exceeded $100 million, and consolidated adjusted book-to-bill, the ratio of orders to sales, was 1.17. Sensors bookings reached a record. However, diluted earnings fell to $0.04 per share from $0.59 a year earlier; adjusted diluted earnings declined to $0.14 from $0.30. Operating margin fell to 3.2% from 12.7%. Adjusted free cash flow was $5.5 million.

VPG expects fourth-quarter revenue of $84 million to $91 million at constant third-quarter exchange rates, excluding customer tariff refunds. Its 2026 cost-savings initiatives remain on pace for a $6 million target.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

4 terms
book-to-bill financial
"adjusted consolidated book-to-bill of 1.17"
The book-to-bill ratio compares new orders a company has received (bookings) to the products or services it has invoiced or shipped (billings) over the same period. It matters to investors because a ratio above 1 means demand is outpacing fulfillment and the company may grow revenue or build backlog, while a ratio below 1 suggests slowing demand and possible future revenue weakness — think of it as new customer orders versus what the company actually sold.
adjusted ebitda financial
"Adjusted EBITDA* was $8.2 million"
Adjusted EBITDA is a way companies measure how much money they make from their core operations, like running a business, by removing certain costs or income that aren’t part of regular business activities. It helps investors see how well a company is doing without distractions from unusual expenses or gains, making it easier to compare companies or track performance over time.
gaap financial
"GAAP net revenues of $85.1 million"
GAAP, or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, are a set of standardized rules and guidelines that companies follow when preparing their financial statements. They ensure consistency, transparency, and comparability across different companies, making it easier for investors to understand and compare financial information accurately. This helps investors make informed decisions based on trustworthy and uniform financial reports.
View in glossary
share-based compensation expense financial
"exclude share-based compensation expense in addition to the other items"
Share-based compensation expense is the accounting cost a company records when it pays employees or executives with stock, stock options, or other equity instead of cash. It matters to investors because it reduces reported profits and can dilute existing owners’ stake over time — like a bakery paying workers with slices of cake instead of money, leaving fewer slices for original owners and changing each slice’s value.

Third Fiscal Quarter Highlights (comparisons are to the comparable period a year ago):

  • GAAP net revenues of $85.1 million; adjusted net revenues* of $87.4 million.
  • GAAP net revenues reduced by $2.3 million of tariff refunds passed through to customers, with no impact on gross profit.
  • Gross profit margin was 40.2% as compared to 40.3%.
  • Adjusted gross profit margin* was 39.3%, as compared to 40.5%.
  • Operating margin was 3.2% as compared to 12.7%.
  • Adjusted operating margin* was 4.9%, as compared to 6.9%.

  • Adjusted diluted net earnings per share* of $0.14 as compared to $0.30.

  • Adjusted EBITDA* was $8.2 million with an adjusted EBITDA margin* of 9.4%.

Ziv Shoshani, Chief Executive Officer of VPG, commented, “Adjusted revenue of $87.4 million in the third quarter grew 4.1% sequentially and 9.6% from the prior year. We also delivered another strong quarter of bookings with orders exceeding $100 million, which resulted in an adjusted consolidated book-to-bill of 1.17, our eighth consecutive quarter with consolidated book-to-bill at or above 1.0. Sensor bookings reached a record, driven by continued strength in AI-driven applications, including demand for our precision resistors in semiconductor equipment, data center and fiber-optic applications, as well as continued demand in aerospace and defense. Importantly, all three reporting segments achieved book-to-bill ratios of 1.0 or better. Regarding humanoid robots, we are preparing for the anticipated production ramp up, with timing aligned to our customer’s updated production schedule. These results demonstrate the strength of our differentiated technology portfolio and our growing participation in attractive secular growth markets.”

Mr. Shoshani added: “We made solid progress on profitability and cash generation, improving gross margin and EBITDA sequentially while generating $5.5 million of adjusted free cash flow. Our cost savings initiatives continued on pace to achieve the $6 million of savings targeted for 2026. Given our continued strong order activity and a growing backlog, we see revenue momentum into 2027 and expect to realize the operating leverage in our target model as revenues continue to grow.”

Segment Performance:
The Sensors segment bookings in the third fiscal quarter of 2026 of $51.7 million grew 7.5% sequentially to a record high, resulting in a book-to-bill of 1.35.
The Sensors segment revenues of $38.4 million in the third fiscal quarter of 2026 increased 21.3% from $31.6 million in the third fiscal quarter of 2025. Sequentially, revenues increased 14.8% compared to $33.4 million in the second fiscal quarter of 2026. The year-over-year increase in revenues was primarily attributable to higher sales of precision resistors in the Test and Measurement market. Sequentially, the increase in revenues primarily reflected higher sales of precision resistors and strain gages in the Test and Measurement market.

Gross profit margin for the Sensors segment was 32.4% for the third fiscal quarter of 2026, which decreased from 33.6% in the third fiscal quarter of 2025 and increased from 31.5% in the second fiscal quarter of 2026. Adjusted gross margin* in the third fiscal quarter of 2026 of 32.6% was adjusted for $0.1 million of start-up costs. The year-over-year decrease in gross profit margin was primarily due to unfavorable foreign currency exchange rates and higher manufacturing costs, which were partially offset by higher volume. The sequential increase in gross profit margin was primarily due to higher volume, partially offset by higher manufacturing costs.

Third-quarter adjusted bookings for the Weighing Solutions segment of $28.6 million were flat sequentially, resulting in a book-to-bill of 1.06.
The Weighing Solutions segment net revenues were $24.6 million. Adjusted net revenues* were $26.9 million in the third fiscal quarter of 2026, which decreased 2.2% from $27.5 million in the third fiscal quarter of 2025. Sequentially, adjusted net revenues* decreased 11.3% compared to $30.3 million in the second fiscal quarter of 2026. The year-over-year decrease in adjusted net revenues* was mainly attributable to lower sales in the Industrial Weighing market. Sequentially, adjusted net revenues* decreased in the Transportation, Industrial Weighing and General Industrial markets.

Gross profit margin for the Weighing Solutions segment was 37.6% for the third fiscal quarter of 2026, which decreased from gross profit margin of 40.3% in the third fiscal quarter of 2025 and increased from 37.3% in the second fiscal quarter of 2026. Adjusted gross margin* in the third fiscal quarter of 2026 of 34.6% based on adjusted net revenues*, excludes $0.1 million of start-up costs. The year-over-year decrease in adjusted gross profit margin* was primarily due to unfavorable product mix and reduction in inventory. The sequential decrease in adjusted gross profit margin* primarily reflected lower volume.

The Measurement Systems segment bookings in the third fiscal quarter of 2026 of $22.2 million grew 18.6% sequentially, resulting in a book-to-bill of 1.01.
The Measurement Systems segment revenues of $22.1 million in the third fiscal quarter of 2026 increased 7.6% from $20.6 million in the third fiscal quarter of 2025. Sequentially, revenues increased 9.7% compared to $20.2 million in the second fiscal quarter of 2026. The year-over-year increase was primarily attributable to higher revenue in the AMS market. Sequentially, the increase in revenue was primarily due to higher sales in the Steel market.

Gross profit margin for the Measurement Systems segment was 56.5% for the third fiscal quarter of 2026, which increased from 50.5% in the third fiscal quarter of 2025, and increased from 52.5% in the second fiscal quarter of 2026. The year-over-year and sequential increases in gross profit margin were primarily due to higher volume and favorable product mix.

Near-Term Outlook
“For the fourth fiscal quarter of 2026 at constant third fiscal quarter 2026 foreign currency exchange rates, we expect net revenues to be in the range of $84 million to $91 million. Our guidance excludes fourth-quarter tariff refunds to customers which will have no impact on profits,” said Mr. Shoshani.

*Use of Non-GAAP Financial Information:
Beginning in fiscal 2026, the Company revised its definition of certain non-GAAP financial measures to exclude share-based compensation expense in addition to the other items described below. This change was made in light of the Company’s evolving compensation structure following recent organizational changes, including the hiring of senior executives and the expansion of equity-based incentive programs to attract and retain key talent.

Management believes that excluding share-based compensation expense in certain non-GAAP financial measures provides investors with additional insight into the Company’s core operating performance and enhanced understanding of business trends across reporting periods, including those in comparison to its main peer companies.

Share-based compensation expense will continue to be reflected in the Company's GAAP financial results and will be set forth in a specific line item in the reconciliation table between GAAP and non-GAAP measures. Prior-period non-GAAP financial measures have been recast to conform to the current presentation.

The Company defines "adjusted net revenue" as net revenue less tariff refunds returned to customers. “Adjusted gross profit margin” is gross profit margin before start-up costs and acquisition purchase accounting adjustments. “Adjusted operating margin” is defined as operating margin before start-up costs, acquisition purchase accounting adjustments, restructuring costs, severance costs, share-based compensation expense, and gain on asset held for sale. “Adjusted net earnings” and “adjusted diluted net earnings per share” are defined as net earnings attributable to VPG stockholders before start-up costs, acquisition purchase accounting adjustments, restructuring costs, severance costs, share-based compensation expense, foreign currency exchange gains and losses and associated tax effects, and gain on asset held for sale. We define “Adjusted EBITDA” as earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, start-up costs, acquisition purchase accounting adjustments, restructuring costs, severance costs, foreign currency exchange gains and losses, share-based compensation expense, and gain on asset held for sale.

“Adjusted free cash flow” for the third fiscal quarter of 2026 is defined as the amount of cash generated from operating activities ($11.1 million) in excess of capital expenditures ($5.6 million), net of proceeds, if any, from the sale of assets ($0.0 million).

Management believes that these non-GAAP measures are useful to investors because each present what management views as our core operating results for the relevant period. The adjustments to the applicable GAAP measures relate to occurrences or events that are outside of our core operations, and management believes that the use of these non-GAAP measures provides a consistent basis to evaluate our operating profitability and performance trends across comparable periods. These reconciling items are indicated on the accompanying reconciliation schedules and are more fully described in VPG’s consolidated financial statements presented in our Annual Report on Form 10-K and Quarterly Reports on Forms 10-Q.
