ADTRAN posts $24.5M operating cash outflow in Q3 2026
Optical revenue grew 11% and hyperscale revenue more than 200% year over year, while subscriber solutions declined 13%.
Sentiment and the balance of points
Rhea-AI Sentiment reads the wording of the document, how positive or negative its language is on a 1 to 5 scale. The balance of points shown with the takes weighs what the document actually discloses, so the two can disagree, for example when a trial that missed its main goal is described in upbeat language.
ADTRAN Holdings, Inc. (ADTN) reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $281.2 million, up 0.6% year over year. GAAP diluted loss per share was $0.10, while non-GAAP diluted earnings per share were $0.09. GAAP gross margin was 38.5% and non-GAAP gross margin was 42.1%, including an approximately 200-basis-point benefit from IEEPA refunds; non-GAAP operating margin was 5.0%, versus 5.4% a year earlier.
Revenue was slightly below the midpoint of guidance, with management citing a challenging supply environment. Product and customer mix, tightening supply and component inflation also pressured gross margin. Operating cash flow was negative $24.5 million and free cash flow was negative $39.4 million, compared with positive $12.2 million and negative $4.8 million, respectively, in Q3 2025. ADTRAN identifies ongoing material weaknesses in internal control over financial reporting as a risk.
For Q4 2026, ADTRAN expects revenue of $272.0 million to $292.0 million and non-GAAP operating margin of 1.0% to 5.0%, reflecting historical seasonality, supply availability and the timing of large customer projects.
How this balance works
Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.
It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.
Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.
Positive
- Moderate pointNon-GAAP diluted EPS was $0.09, compared with $0.05 in Q3 2025.
Negative
- Major pointOngoing material weaknesses in internal control over financial reporting.

ADTRAN Holdings, Inc. reports third quarter 2026 financial results
Huntsville, Alabama, USA. — November 2, 2026 — ADTRAN Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN and FSE: QH9) (“ADTRAN Holdings” “ADTRAN” or the “Company”) today announced its unaudited financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2026.
ADTRAN Holdings Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tom Stanton stated, “Third quarter revenue came in slightly below the midpoint of our guidance range as we continued to navigate a challenging supply environment. Despite these pressures, we saw encouraging developments across the business, including continued growth in optical networking and increasing growth with hyperscale customers. The rapid expansion of AI infrastructure is reshaping network investment priorities, creating opportunities for ADTRAN not only in cloud infrastructure but also across our traditional service provider markets.”
“Looking ahead, we see significant opportunities to build on this momentum as customers invest in network capacity, performance and security,” Stanton continued. “Our focus is on addressing the supply and cost pressures affecting our business, maintaining financial discipline and translating these opportunities into stronger revenue growth, profitability and cash generation.”
Business outlook1
For the fourth quarter of 2026, the Company expects revenue to be within a range of $272.0 million to $292.0 million. Non-GAAP operating margin is expected to be within a range of 1.0% to 5.0% reflecting historical seasonality, availability of supply and timing of large customer projects.
1 International Emergency Economic Powers Act
2 Non-GAAP operating margin (which is calculated as non-GAAP operating income (loss) divided by revenue) is a non-GAAP financial measure. The Company has provided guidance for its fourth quarter 2026 non-GAAP operating margin. This measure excludes from the corresponding GAAP financial measure the effect of adjustments as described below. The Company has not provided a reconciliation of such non-GAAP guidance to guidance presented on a GAAP basis because it cannot predict and quantify without unreasonable effort all of the adjustments that may occur during the period due to the difficulty of predicting the timing and amounts of various items within a reasonable range. In particular, non-GAAP operating margin excludes certain items, such as acquisition related expenses, amortization and adjustments, stock-based compensation expense, deferred compensation adjustments, professional fees and other expenses, amortization of pension actuarial losses, the tax effect of these adjustments to net loss and purchases of property, plant and equipment, and developed technologies, that the Company is unable to quantitatively predict. Depending on the materiality of these items, they could have a significant impact on the Company's GAAP financial results.

The Company will hold a conference call to discuss its third quarter 2026 results on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 7:30 a.m. Central Time (2:30 p.m. Central European Time). Explanation of use of non-GAAP financial measures
Set forth in the tables below under the heading “Supplemental Information” are reconciliations of cost of revenue, gross profit, gross margin, operating expenses, operating (loss) income, operating margin, other income (expense), net (loss) income inclusive of the non-controlling interest, net loss attributable to the Company, and loss per share - basic and diluted, attributable to the Company, and net cash provided by operating activities, in each case as reported based on generally accepted accounting principles in the United States (“GAAP”), to non-GAAP cost of revenue, non-GAAP gross profit, non-GAAP gross margin, non-GAAP operating expenses, non-GAAP operating income, non-GAAP operating margin, non-GAAP other expense, non-GAAP net income inclusive of the non-controlling interest, non-GAAP net income (loss) attributable to the Company, non-GAAP net earnings (loss) per share - basic and diluted, attributable to the Company, and free cash flow, respectively. Such non-GAAP measures exclude acquisition-related expenses, amortizations and adjustments (consisting of intangible amortization of backlog, developed technology, customer relationships, and trade names acquired in connection with business combinations), stock-based compensation expense, professional fees and other expenses, restructuring expenses, deferred compensation adjustments, amortization of pension actuarial losses, the tax effect of these adjustments to net loss and purchases of property, plant and equipment, and developed technologies. These measures are used by management in our ongoing planning and annual budgeting processes. Additionally, we believe the presentation of these non-GAAP measures, when combined with the presentation of the most directly comparable GAAP financial measure, is beneficial to the overall understanding of ongoing operating performance of the Company. These non-GAAP financial measures are not prepared in accordance with, or an alternative for, GAAP and therefore should not be considered in isolation or as a substitution for analysis of our results as reported under GAAP. Furthermore, our calculation of non-GAAP measures may not be comparable to similar measures calculated by other companies.

(1) Includes intangible amortization of backlog, developed technology, customer relationships, and trade names acquired in connection with business combinations. We incur charges relating to the amortization of intangible assets and exclude these charges for purposes of calculating our non-GAAP measures. Such charges are significantly impacted by the timing and magnitude of our acquisitions. We exclude these charges for the purpose of calculating our non-GAAP measures, primarily because they are noncash expenses and our internal benchmarking analyses evidence that many industry participants and peers present non-GAAP financial measures excluding intangible asset amortization. Although this does not directly affect our cash position, the loss in value of intangible assets over time can have a material impact on the equivalent GAAP earnings measure.
(2) Included in cost of revenue on the condensed consolidated statements of loss. Includes $0.4 million in related employee exit costs.

(2) Includes non-cash change in fair value of equity investments held in the ADTRAN Holdings, Inc. Deferred Compensation Program for certain employees, all of which is included in selling, general and administrative expenses on the condensed consolidated statement of loss.
(3) Includes $2.4 million in selling, general and administrative on the condensed consolidated statements of loss. This relates to expenses associated with the global ERP go-live and restructuring costs resulting from that project.
(4) Included in cost of revenue, selling, general and administrative and research and development expenses on the condensed consolidated statements of loss. Includes $0.1 million in one-time professional fees and business expenses, $2.0 million in related employee exit costs and offset by a $1.4 million reversal of a provision in connection with a 401(k) plan corrective action which the Company received a compliance statement from the IRS approving a retroactive amendment to correct the matter.

Appendix REFERENCE Non-GAAP reconciliations

APPENDIX · NON-GAAP RECONCILIATIONS Explanation of use of non-GAAP financial measures Set forth in the tables below are reconciliations of cost of revenue, gross profit, gross margin, operating expenses, operating (loss) income, operating margin, other income (expense), net (loss) income inclusive of the non-controlling interest, net loss attributable to the Company, and loss per share - basic and diluted, attributable to the Company, and net cash provided by operating activities, in each case as reported based on generally accepted accounting principles in the United States (“GAAP”), to non-GAAP cost of revenue, non-GAAP gross profit, non-GAAP gross margin, non-GAAP operating expenses, non-GAAP operating income, non-GAAP operating margin, non-GAAP other expense, non-GAAP net income inclusive of the non-controlling interest, non-GAAP net income (loss) attributable to the Company, non-GAAP net earnings (loss) per share - basic and diluted, attributable to the Company, and free cash flow, respectively. Non-GAAP operating margin (which is calculated as non-GAAP operating income (loss) divided by revenue) is a non-GAAP financial measure. Depending on the materiality of these items, they could have a significant impact on the Company’s GAAP financial results.
