Insights

Credicorp secures Chilean bank license for its Tenpo unit, enabling a new regulated banking operation within one year.

The Chilean Financial Market Commission has granted operating authorization to Tenpo Bank Chile, a subsidiary of Credicorp Ltd.. This authorization permits Tenpo Bank Chile to operate as a bank dedicated exclusively to banking activities, which moves Credicorp from a preparatory stage into a fully authorized position in the Chilean banking system.

The authorization includes a condition that operations must commence within one year from the January 19, 2026 notification. This sets a clear regulatory deadline for Credicorp to complete operational, technological, and capital deployment steps needed to open the bank. Actual financial impact will depend on how quickly and at what scale Tenpo Bank Chile launches products and attracts customers once it begins operating.

For investors following Credicorp’s regional expansion, this development confirms that Chilean regulators have formally cleared Tenpo Bank Chile to operate, subject to the one-year commencement window. Future company disclosures about product rollout, customer growth, and early performance in Chile will be important to understand how this new license translates into revenue and earnings contributions.
