Rhea-AI Filing Summary

International General Insurance Holdings Ltd. (IGIC) reported third-quarter and first-nine-month 2026 results. Third-quarter net income was $28.0 million, versus $33.5 million in 2025; nine-month net income was $70.5 million, versus $94.9 million. Net premiums earned were $124.5 million for the quarter and $360.7 million for nine months, compared with $114.7 million and $342.5 million. The combined ratio was 85.7% in the quarter and 90.1% for nine months, versus 76.5% and 87.1%.

Core operating income was $28.2 million in the quarter and $71.2 million for nine months, compared with $38.6 million and $80.8 million. IGI attributed the declines to lower underwriting income; the nine-month comparison also reflected higher general and administrative costs, primarily employee and IT costs. CAT losses related to the war in the Middle East were the primary driver of elevated loss activity in the first nine months. The board declared an ordinary common share dividend of $0.075 per share for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, payable December 2, 2026, to shareholders of record November 17, 2026.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

At September 30, 2026, total shareholders’ equity was $663.4 million, compared with $710.2 million at December 31, 2025; IGI attributed the decrease primarily to negative mark-to-market movements in its fixed-income investment portfolio.

Combined ratio financial
"The combined ratio was 85.7% and 90.1%"
The combined ratio is a way insurance companies measure how well they are doing by adding up all their costs and claims and comparing them to the money they earn from premiums. If the ratio is below 100%, it means the company is making a profit; if it's above 100%, they are losing money. It helps see if an insurance company is financially healthy or not.
Gross written premiums financial
"Gross written premiums were $119.6 million"
Gross written premiums are the total amount of money an insurance company charges for all the policies it sells during a specific period, before subtracting any costs or claims. It's like the total sales a store makes from all its products before deducting expenses. This figure shows how much business the insurer is taking on and helps gauge its size and growth.
prior years’ favorable reserve development financial
"7.1 points of prior years’ favorable reserve development"
Core operating income financial
"Core operating income was $28.2 million"
Core operating income is the profit a company generates from its regular, day-to-day business activities after paying the normal costs of running those operations, excluding one‑time gains, losses, or unusual items. Investors care because it reveals the steady earnings power of the business—like measuring how well a store makes money from selling goods each month rather than from a one-off sale of property—and helps compare performance across periods and companies.
Net premiums earned financial
"Net premiums earned were $124.5 million"
The portion of insurance premiums that a company recognizes as revenue for a specific accounting period after subtracting any amounts paid to other insurers for reinsurance; it represents the cost of insurance coverage actually provided during that time. Think of a year‑long subscription where only the months used are counted as income. Investors watch net premiums earned to gauge an insurer’s revenue growth and underwriting performance, separate from one‑time sales or changes in policy counts.

“We remain focused on disciplined portfolio management. For the first nine months of 2026, we generated an annualized core operating return on average equity of 13.8%, while absorbing the single largest loss event (Middle East war) in IGI’s 25-year history, and returned almost $80 million in shareholder capital through dividends and share repurchases.”

These results reflected profitable underwriting results across all segments and positive net investment income for the quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2026 compared to the same periods in 2025.

Return on average equity (annualized) was 16.8% for the third quarter of 2026, compared to 19.9% for the third quarter of 2025, and 13.7% for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, compared to 18.9% for the nine months ended September 30, 2025.

Core operating income, a non-GAAP financial measure, was $28.2 million compared to $38.6 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 and 2025, respectively, reflecting lower underwriting income on a comparative basis. For the first nine months of 2026, core operating income was $71.2 million versus $80.8 million for the comparative period in 2025, driven by lower underwriting income and higher general and administrative costs, primarily related to employee and IT costs.

Gross written premiums were $119.6 million in the quarter ended September 30, 2026, compared to $131.3 million for the same period of 2025, due to lower gross premium production in the Short-tail Segment, specifically in the energy line. Gross written premiums were $518.5 million for the first nine months of 2026 compared to $525.6 million for the same period in 2025.

Underwriting income was generated across all segments totaling $43.0 million and $110.2 million for the third quarter and first nine months of 2026 respectively, compared to $51.4 million and $114.3 million for the corresponding periods of 2025.

The loss ratio of 46.1% for the third quarter of 2026 included 6.9 points of CAT losses and 7.1 points of prior years’ favorable reserve development, compared to 39.3% for the same period in 2025, which included 6.3 points of CAT losses and 9.1 points of prior years’ favorable development. For the first nine months of 2026, the loss ratio was 51.2%, which included 14.8 points of CAT losses and 10.9 points of prior years’ favorable reserve development, compared to 49.3% which included 13.4 points of CAT losses and 8.8 points of prior years’ favorable reserve development for the first nine months of 2025. CAT losses related to the war in the Middle East were the primary driver of elevated loss activity during the first nine months of 2026.

The expense ratio (which is comprised of the net policy acquisition expense ratio, and the general and administrative expense ratio) was 39.6% and 38.9% for the third quarter and first nine months of 2026, compared to 37.2% and 37.8%, respectively, for the same periods of 2025. The net policy acquisition expense ratio increased to 19.4% in the third quarter of 2026 from 15.9% in the third quarter of 2025, reflecting the combined impact of lower realized foreign exchange gains and higher gross commission expenses across all segments in 2026 compared with 2025.

The combined ratio was 85.7% and 90.1% for the third quarter and first nine months of 2026 compared to 76.5% and 87.1%, respectively, for the same periods of 2025.

Non-GAAP Financial Measures

In presenting IGI’s financial results, management has included and discussed certain non-GAAP financial measures. We believe that these non-GAAP financial measures, which may be defined and calculated differently by other companies, help to explain and enhance the understanding of our results of operations. However, these measures should not be viewed as a substitute for those determined in accordance with U.S. GAAP.

Core Operating Income

Core operating income measures the performance of our operations without the influence of after-tax gains or losses on investments and foreign currencies and other items as noted in the table below. We exclude these items from our calculation of core operating income because the amounts of these gains and losses are heavily influenced by, and fluctuate in part according to, economic and other factors external to the Company and/or transactions or events that are typically not a recurring part of, and are largely independent of, our core underwriting activities and including them distorts the analysis of trends in our operations. We believe the reporting of core operating income enhances an understanding of our results by highlighting the underlying profitability of our core insurance operations. Our underwriting profitability is impacted by earned premiums, the adequacy of pricing, and the frequency and severity of losses. Over time, such profitability is also influenced by underwriting discipline, which seeks to manage the Company’s exposure to loss through intelligent risk selection and diversification, IGI’s management of claims, use of reinsurance and the ability to manage the expense ratio, which the Company accomplishes through the management of acquisition costs and other underwriting expenses.

In addition to presenting net income for the period determined in accordance with U.S. GAAP, we believe that showing “core operating income” provides investors with a valuable measure of profitability and enables investors, rating agencies and other users of our financial information to analyze the Company’s results in a similar manner to the way in which Management analyzes the Company’s underlying business performance.
