How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

provision for credit losses financial
"recorded a provision for credit losses"
Provision for credit losses is an amount set aside by a financial institution to cover potential future losses from borrowers who may not repay their loans. It acts like a safety net, helping the institution manage risks and stay financially healthy. For investors, it signals how cautious a lender is about potential loan defaults and can impact the company's profitability and financial stability.
available for sale financial
"available for sale investments"
Available for sale describes investments, usually bonds or stocks, that a company intends to keep but may sell before they mature; they are reported at current market value on the balance sheet while any unrealized profit or loss is kept separate from regular earnings. For investors, this matters because changes in market value affect a company’s reported net worth and can become realized gains or losses when sold, similar to how the changing resale value of a collectible affects your net wealth even before you sell it.
tangible book value per share financial
"Tangible book value per share"
Tangible book value per share is the company's total physical and financial assets minus its liabilities and intangible items (like goodwill and brand value), divided by the number of outstanding shares. It gives investors a conservative, per‑share estimate of what would remain if the business sold only its hard assets and paid its debts—useful for judging whether a stock is priced above or below its underlying, tangible worth, like valuing a property by its bricks and cash rather than its reputation.
adjustable rate mortgages financial
"repricing of our adjustable rate mortgages to higher rates"
A mortgage with an interest rate that can change over time instead of staying fixed for the life of the loan. Think of it like a thermostat that regularly adjusts with room temperature: payments can go up or down as general interest rates move. Investors watch adjustable-rate mortgages because shifting payments affect homeowners’ ability to pay, the value of mortgage-backed securities, bank earnings and overall housing demand.
Net income $919,000 Increased $575,000 from $344,000 in the prior-year quarter
Diluted earnings per share $0.11 Compared with $0.04 in the prior-year quarter

Kentucky First Federal Bancorp Releases Earnings

Kentucky First Federal Bancorp (Nasdaq: KFFB), the holding company (the “Company”) for First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Hazard and First Federal Savings Bank of Kentucky, Frankfort, Kentucky, announced net income of $919,000 or $0.11 diluted earnings per share for the three months ended September 30, 2026, compared to net income of $344,000 or $0.04 diluted earnings per share for the three months ended September 30, 2025, an increase of $575,000.

The increase in net income for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 was primarily attributable to higher net interest income, decreased non-interest expense, and slightly higher non-interest income, which were partially offset by increased provision for credit losses and higher income tax expense. Net interest income increased $639,000 or 25.5% to $3.1 million due primarily to both an increase in interest income as well as a decrease in interest expense. Interest income increased $159,000 or 3.1%, to $5.2 million, while interest expense decreased $480,000 or 18.8% to $2.1 million for the recently-ended quarter.

The average rate earned on interest-earning assets increased 38 basis points to 5.97% and was the primary reason for the increase in interest income, more than enough to make up for the decrease in average interest earning assets, which totaled $349.1 million for the recently-ended quarterly period, a decrease of $12.6 million or 3.5%. The increase in average rate earned is mostly due to the average interest rate earned on loans, which increased 47 basis points to 6.18% compared to the three months ended September 30, 2025. Interest rates on loans have increased due to new loan production at higher coupons as well as repricing of our adjustable rate mortgages to higher rates. The decrease in interest expense was attributed to both a decrease in the average balance of interest-bearing liabilities as well as a decrease in the average balance paid on those funds. The average rate paid on interest-bearing liabilities decreased 50 basis points to 2.82% and was the primary reason for the decrease in interest expense, while the average balance of interest-bearing liabilities decreased by $13.4 million or 4.4% to $293.0 million.

Non-interest expense decreased $130,000 or 5.9% for the recently-ended quarter compared to the three months ended September 30, 2025, primarily due to decreased outside service fees of $55,000, decreased FDIC insurance premiums of $19,000, decreased employee and compensation expense of $12,000, and decreased regulatory assessment expense of $12,000.

Non-interest income increased $28,000 or 18.3% and totaled $181,000 for the three months ended September 30, 2026, primarily due to net gains on sales of loans increasing $27,000 or 41.5% compared to September 30, 2025.

We recorded a provision for credit losses for the recently-ended quarter of $40,000 compared to no provision in the prior year period. Management determined that an increase in provision for loan losses for the quarter just ended was appropriate in light of the current economic environment and the recent increase in the overnight interest rate made by the Federal Open Market Committee. While the current economic indicators present a mixed bag of positive and negative attributes, the recent interest rate increase and market sentiment about future interest rate increases may increase pressure on borrowers and, therefore, impact our loan portfolio. Income tax expense increased $182,000 period to period, as income tax expense totaled $291,000 for the three months just ended compared to income tax expense of $109,000 in the prior year quarter. The increase is due to increased earnings, with the three months ended September 30, 2026 income before income taxes being $757,000 higher than that of the three months ended September 30, 2025.

At September 30, 2026, assets totaled $356.3 million, a decrease of $6.1 million or 1.7%, from $362.4 million at June 30, 2026, due primarily to a decrease in loans, net, which decreased $4.1 million or 1.3%. Investment securities decreased $2.1 million or 18.7% due to normal repayments and prepayments, as well as a decrease in fair market value of available for sale investments, which decreased $91,000 during the period. Total liabilities decreased $6.8 million or 2.2% to $305.3 million at September 30, 2026, as total deposits decreased $7.2 million or 2.8% to $253.6 million.

At September 30, 2026, the Company reported its book value per share as $6.30. Shareholders’ equity increased $669,000 or 1.3% to $51.0 million at September 30, 2026 compared to June 30, 2026. The increase in shareholders’ equity was primarily associated with net earnings for the quarter less dividends of $168,000 paid during the quarter.
