Rhea-AI Filing Summary

Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) reported first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue of $92.279 billion for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, up 19% year over year. Operating income was $45.915 billion, up 21%; GAAP net income was $36.629 billion, up 32%, and diluted GAAP earnings per share was $4.92, up 32%. Non-GAAP net income was $36.422 billion and diluted EPS was $4.89, each up 18% (19% in constant currency).

Microsoft Cloud revenue was $63.9 billion, up 30% (31% in constant currency), and commercial remaining performance obligation rose 73% to $677 billion. Azure revenue increased 48%; Microsoft 365 commercial cloud revenue increased 17% on a reported basis, while search and advertising revenue excluding traffic acquisition costs increased 12%. By contrast, Windows OEM and Devices revenue fell 22%; the Devices and Consumer segment reported revenue of $15.484 billion, down 3%. Microsoft said prior-period segment amounts were recast for fiscal 2027 reporting changes. Current-quarter GAAP results included $207 million of net gains from OpenAI investments; the non-GAAP presentation adjusts for those investment impacts. The company returned $10.2 billion through dividends and share repurchases during the quarter.

How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

Filing Explained

Removing OpenAI investment effects changes the year-over-year net-income growth comparison from 32% to 18%.

The October 28, 2026 Form 8-K reports Microsoft’s first-quarter results release; the release is furnished as an exhibit, not deemed filed for Exchange Act Section 18 purposes or incorporated into another filing unless specifically referenced.

Microsoft says prior-year OpenAI investment losses reduced GAAP net income by $3.1 billion, while current-quarter gains added $207 million; excluding both effects, year-over-year net income growth was 18%, versus 32% GAAP growth.

constant currency financial
"present constant currency information"
Constant currency is a way of measuring financial results that removes the effects of changes in currency exchange rates. It allows for a clearer comparison of a company's performance over time by showing what the numbers would look like if exchange rates had stayed the same. This helps investors understand whether growth comes from actual business improvements or just currency fluctuations.
commercial remaining performance obligation financial
"Commercial remaining performance obligation increased 73% to $677 billion"
The portion of a company’s remaining performance obligations under revenue‑recognition rules that arises from commercial contracts to deliver goods or services for consideration. Under ASC 606/IFRS 15, a remaining performance obligation is the transaction price allocated to goods or services that the company has promised but has not yet satisfied; the “commercial” qualifier identifies the subset tied to market‑facing, revenue‑generating contracts (for example product sales, supply agreements, or service contracts) as opposed to non‑commercial arrangements like certain grants, internal projects, or purely research‑stage collaborations. It represents expected future revenue recognition from those contracts but is not a cash guarantee and can change as contracts are modified, cancelled, or remeasured.
non-GAAP financial
"non-GAAP financial measures"
Non-GAAP refers to financial measures that companies use to show their earnings or performance without including certain expenses or income that are often added back to give a different picture. It matters because it can make a company's results look better or more favorable, but it may also hide important costs, so investors need to look at both GAAP (official rules) and non-GAAP numbers to get a full understanding.
traffic acquisition costs financial
"Search and advertising revenue excluding traffic acquisition costs"
Traffic acquisition costs are the money a company spends to bring visitors or users to its website, app or platform—things like advertising fees, partner payments, or search-engine placement charges. Think of it as the cost of buying foot traffic for a store: higher costs mean each new user is more expensive, so investors watch this number to judge whether growth is affordable, sustainable and likely to lead to profits.
Revenue $92.279 billion increased 19% year over year
Operating income $45.915 billion increased 21% year over year
GAAP net income $36.629 billion increased 32% year over year
Diluted GAAP earnings per share $4.92 increased 32% year over year
Microsoft Cloud revenue $63.9 billion increased 30% year over year
