How this balance works

Rhea-AI gives every point it takes from this document a weight. Minor counts 1, Moderate 3 and Major 9, so one Major point outweighs several Minor ones. The bar adds up the weights on each side, and when neither side holds more than 65% of the total the balance reads Mixed.

It reads the document as published, with the same rules for every company, and it does not look at what the market expected or at how the stock traded, so a point can be objectively good on a day the stock falls.

Rhea-AI Sentiment measures something else, the tone of the wording.

Adjusted EBITDA financial
"Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter increased to $66.6 million"
Adjusted EBITDA is a way companies measure how much money they make from their core operations, like running a business, by removing certain costs or income that aren’t part of regular business activities. It helps investors see how well a company is doing without distractions from unusual expenses or gains, making it easier to compare companies or track performance over time.
net debt leverage financial
"Our net debt leverage decreased to 1.8x"
Net debt leverage measures how many years it would take a company to pay off its debt using its normal operating earnings after subtracting cash on hand; mathematically it's the company’s total debt minus cash divided by its annual operating cash profit. Think of it like comparing a household’s mortgage balance (after savings) to its yearly take-home pay — higher numbers mean more financial strain and greater risk to investors, while lower numbers suggest more capacity to weather trouble or borrow for growth.
IEEPA tariff adjustment financial
"IEEPA Tariff Adjustment"
An IEEPA tariff adjustment is a change to import duties or trade restrictions made under the U.S. International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which lets the government alter customs rules during declared national emergencies or to enforce sanctions. For investors, it matters because such adjustments can suddenly raise or lower the cost of bringing goods into the country, reshuffle supply chains, and shift competitive advantages—like a toll hike on a major bridge that makes some routes much more expensive and forces companies to find alternatives.
EBITDA without Special Items financial
"EBITDA without Special Items"
EBITDA without special items is a measure of a company's operating profit before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, with one-time or unusual gains and losses removed. It aims to show the recurring cash-generating performance of the core business—like comparing a household’s regular monthly bills while ignoring a one-off roof repair—helping investors judge ongoing profitability and make apples-to-apples comparisons across periods or peers.

1

Consolidated adjusted net sales for the nine months ended September 30, 2026 were $1,490.8 million, compared to consolidated adjusted net sales of $1,406.1 million during the comparable period in 2025. Earnings from continuing operations for the nine months ended September 30, 2026 were $82.7 million or $3.62 per diluted share, compared to $69.8 million or $3.11 per diluted share in the comparable period of 2025. Non-GAAP earnings from continuing operations for the nine months ended September 30, 2026 and 2025 were $85.9 million or $3.76 per diluted share and $77.5 million or $3.45 per diluted share, respectively.

Mr. Eric Sills, Standard Motor Products’ Chairman and Chief Executive Officer stated, “Overall we are very pleased with our third quarter. Adjusted net sales for the quarter, excluding the impact of the accounting treatment for IEEPA tariff refunds received in the quarter, increased 2.8% with three of our four operating segments showing solid gains, while adjusted EBITDA increased to a record-setting $66.6 million. Year-to-date we have set records for both top and bottom-line performance.”
Third Quarter Highlights:
North American Aftermarket Segments
•Vehicle Control adjusted net sales increased 6.0% in the third quarter, driven by strong sell-in as customers deepen assortments to capture DIFM sales, solid demand across all categories and aided by an easier year-over-year comparison. Year-to-date adjusted net sales are up 5.1% for the segment. Customer POS for the segment remained positive throughout the quarter, demonstrating ongoing demand for our non-discretionary offering.

•Temperature Control adjusted net sales decreased 4.1% in the quarter, against a record setting comparison last year, and are up 4.2% year-to-date. The first half of the year saw very strong preseason orders as our customers prepared for the selling season, with sell-in well ahead through the second quarter. Customer POS was solid in the quarter with strong sell-through of previously purchased inventory.

Nissens
Nissens adjusted net sales increased 7.6% to $91.0 million, driven by a combination of high single digit sales growth in local currency benefiting from the record temperatures in certain end-markets, offset by a modest headwind in currency conversion. Year-to-date adjusted net sales are up 7.9% for the segment, outperforming in a challenging market and demonstrating the strength of our program.
Engineered Solutions
Adjusted net sales in the Engineered Solutions segment showed solid growth of 4.9% over last year’s third quarter and are up 11.4% year-to-date. As comparisons remain more difficult in the next few quarters, we would expect more normalized levels of sales growth going forward.
2

Profitability & Balance Sheet
Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter increased to $66.6 million, up from $61.7 million last year, driven primarily by solid performance across our Vehicle Control and Nissens segments, partially offset by Temperature Control due to lower sales in the quarter.
From a balance sheet perspective, our cash flows and borrowings were in line with expectations. Total net debt at quarter-end stood at $381.9 million, down from $510.2 million at the end of the second quarter, reflecting debt paydown as we are into our seasonally stronger cash-generating quarters. Importantly, we reduced our inventory to $646.1 million from $727.9 million at December 31, 2025. Our net debt leverage decreased to 1.8x from 2.5x in the second quarter of 2026, surpassing our target for reducing net debt levels to 2.0x adjusted EBITDA by the end of 2026.
2026 Guidance Update
Our outlook for the full year of 2026 reaffirms our expectation that sales growth will be in the low to mid-single digit range driven by ongoing tailwinds for professional grade non-discretionary products in the North American aftermarket, continuing momentum in our European business, and steady performance in Engineered Solutions, offset by a lapping of both tariff pricing and the benefits of stronger currency conversion.
Further, we reaffirm our expectation that adjusted EBITDA will be in a range of 11% -12%. Note that our guidance excludes the impact of ongoing changes in the tariff landscape, any significant inflationary impact from geopolitical conditions, or increase in interest rates impacting our customers’ supply chain financing programs. We intend to address these pressures with our usual combination of cost savings and pricing programs.
Dividends
The Board of Directors has approved payment of a quarterly dividend of 33 cents per share on the common stock outstanding, which will be paid on December 1, 2026 to stockholders of record on November 16, 2026.
Closing Remarks
In closing, Mr. Sills commented, “As we move into the final quarter of the year, we are optimistic that we can continue to navigate the challenging environment and maintain the positive momentum we have experienced over the past several quarters. Our quality products and brands across a wide assortment of non-discretionary categories have us well-positioned to support our customers and the repair professional. The resiliency of the aftermarket in both North America and Europe has us excited about our future path for growth and improved profitability. I would like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment to our continued success.”

Use and Definition of Non-GAAP Measures
We report our financial results in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States (“GAAP”). We supplement the reporting of our financial information determined under GAAP with certain non-GAAP financial information. The non-GAAP information presented provides investors with additional useful information but should not be considered in isolation or as substitutes for the related GAAP measures. We believe that these non-GAAP measures provide investors with additional insight into the Company’s ongoing business performance and balance sheet health. Other companies may define non-GAAP measures differently, which limits the usefulness of these measures for comparisons with such other companies. We encourage investors to review our financial statements and publicly-filed reports in their entirety and not to rely on any single financial measure.
When we provide our expectations for adjusted EBITDA, adjusted EBITDA margin and net debt leverage, a reconciliation of this non-GAAP financial measure to the corresponding GAAP measures is not available without unreasonable effort due to potentially high variability and low visibility as to the items that would be excluded from the GAAP measure in the relevant future period. A reconciliation of the non-GAAP measures to the corresponding amounts prepared in accordance with GAAP appears in the tables in this Appendix. Below are our non-GAAP financial measures:

Non-GAAP MeasureDefinition
Adjusted consolidated net sales and adjusted segment net salesRepresents net sales (a GAAP measure), excluding adjustment for accounting for International Emergency Economic Powers Act (“IEEPA”) tariff refunds received from the United States Treasury which we estimate may be passed through to our customers.
Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share from continuing operations attributable to SMP and related non-GAAP income statement items and related percentage of net sales and adjusted net salesRepresents earnings from continuing operations attributable to SMP (a GAAP measure) and related income statement items, such as gross profit, selling, general and administrative expenses, operating income (GAAP measures), adjusted to exclude restructuring expenses, acquisition and integration expenses, other income (expense), net, and related tax effects.
Net debt and net debt leverageRepresents the current portion of revolving credit facility, current portion of term loan and other debt and long-term debt (GAAP measures) less cash (a GAAP measure) divided by EBITDA without special items, as defined below.
EBITDA, adjusted EBITDA, EBITDA without special items and related margin percentageRepresents net earnings (loss) (a GAAP measure), excluding depreciation, amortization, and interest expense adjusted or without special items defined as restructuring expenses, acquisition & integration expenses, expenses related to a customer program wind down, and a charge related to a litigation matter in dispute. EBITDA margin and adjusted EBITDA margin divided by GAAP net sales or adjusted consolidated net sales or adjusted segment net sales. Special items represent significant charges or credits that are important to an understanding of the company's overall operating results in the periods presented.
