Insights

TELUS discloses a long-planned CEO succession with clear timelines and continuity.

TELUS is managing a major leadership change as long-time CEO Darren Entwistle retires after a 26-year tenure on June 30, 2026. The Board has chosen insider-turned-executive Victor Dodig, already a director since May 2022, to assume the President and CEO role on July 1, 2026.

The company emphasizes a comprehensive succession process and a structured transition. Dodig becomes CEO Designate immediately and joins the leadership team full time on May 1, 2026, while Entwistle stays on as CEO Emeritus and advisor until April 30, 2027. This overlap is designed to preserve strategic continuity at a business generating over $20 billion in annual revenue and operating in more than 45 countries.

The impact on performance will depend on how effectively Dodig translates his prior CEO experience in financial services to a global communications technology platform and on how smoothly the leadership team executes during and after the transition milestones in 2026 and 2027.
