News Explained

The report’s resource figures do not by themselves demonstrate economic viability; the company says resources that are not reserves lack that demonstrated viability. Its reserve figures are separately generated using mine design and other modifying factors, so the two categories should not be read as equivalent.

Key Terms

ni 43-101, qualified persons, qa/qc, net smelter return
4 terms
ni 43-101 regulatory
"prepared in accordance with National Instrument 43-101 Standards of Disclosure"
A Canadian regulatory standard that sets the rules for how mining and exploration companies must report mineral resources and reserves, requiring technical reports prepared or signed off by an independent, certified expert. It matters to investors because it creates a consistent, transparent “inspection report” for mining projects, making it easier to compare prospects, judge the reliability of claims, and assess geological and financial risk before investing.
qualified persons regulatory
"all of whom are employed by First Majestic and are Qualified Persons"
A qualified person is a named professional who holds the legal credentials and expertise required by regulators to review and sign off on technical, scientific or safety-related information in public disclosures. For investors, this functions like a licensed inspector or certified auditor: it signals that key claims — about clinical results, mining resources, or product safety — have been checked by someone officially authorized, which increases trust and reduces the chance of misleading statements.
qa/qc technical
"supported by quality assurance and quality control ("QA/QC") programs"
QA/QC stands for Quality Assurance and Quality Control, processes used to ensure products or services meet certain standards. Think of it as a way to check that a product is safe and works properly before reaching consumers, similar to how a chef tastes food before serving it. For investors, strong QA/QC practices indicate a company's commitment to delivering reliable, high-quality offerings, reducing risks and building trust.
net smelter return technical
"using a variable net smelter return (NSR) cut-off methodology"
Net smelter return is the percentage of revenue from selling a mineral or metal that a mining company or project owner receives after deducting costs like refining and transportation. It functions like a share of the profits from the mineral's sale, giving investors an idea of how much money the project generates. This measure helps investors assess the potential profitability of a mining asset.
